His application is due to be completed by the end of the month at least as far as getting it to the assistant Marine Officer Instructor (AMOI). He then makes sure its complete and adds his endorsement. He then gets interviewed by the MOI who then adds his endorsement. Finally it goes to the PNS who adds his endorsement before sending it to the board. The board meets sometime in April.
His stats look pretty good to me. 3.7 GPA, 296 of 300 on the PFT. Perfect CFT as I recall. Squad leader this semester and participated in an intramural sport. Made the drill team and works out with the Spec Warfare club, which is totally optional. Also some service hours and a rather odd EC (ballroom dancing). Also has part time (8 hour) job but I don't know if that gets listed on the application.
I think he has as good a shot at it as anyone in the battalion, if not the best shot. He is certainly the fittest MIDN and one of the top 4 in fitness in the battalion. But there are only 80 side load 3 year scholarships this year and he is not a tier 1 major and an MO at that, so we shall see. If not then we try again next year. There will be 108 2 year scholarships next year so the odds will be a bit better. In any case I'm confident he will achieve Advanced Standing, unless he totally screws up between now and then - which as always a possibility.
Thanks for asking. Good luck on the scholarship!
