Trouble

If I recieved a three day suspension in high school, and its was the only blemish upon my record, would it still severely impact my chance for admission? If you looked at my track record, full of extracurriculars , AP classes, and leadership roles , would a ninth grade mess up damage me?

I don't know, but it might depend on whether that shows on your official record (such as a transcript) or not.

I would advise you to speak to your principal. Most have the authority to expunge this from your record and if this happened three years ago and you have kept your nose clean, made good grades, etc. that is the route that I would pursue first. I am aware of a studend in our son's hs who had the same situation and the principal did make the decision to do just that based upon the performance, behavior and leadership exhibited subsequent to the suspension. JMO.

I had a suspension as well. Never asked for the principal to somehow take it off my record, because I knew the Academy would never see it. It most likely won't show on your transcripts. It didn't for me, at least.

BUT I still reported it to the Honor Committee when they asked. That is the honest thing to do.

Six months later ... appointment in hand for class of 2016.

This might be a good case where you turn a negative into a positive. Depending on the situation, you might be able to address the issue in your personal statement and/or have your guidance counselor, principal, or other school official write a short letter explaining how you have done a 180 and are on the "right" track. Sometimes people make mistakes and it can be a learning situation. Now this could all be dependent on the issue (which you shouldn't post on here).

It might not always be necessary to try to eliminate the issue from the record. Admitting to a mistake, owning up to it, and showing/acting on a plan to correct the situation sometimes is a better idea.

This is not even my academy, but the post just reminded me of something "related." Am I the only one who remembers the episode of the "Wonder Years" where the students were planning to stage a walk-out in protest of the Vietnam War?

The principle told them it would go on their "Permanent Record," and Kevin Arnold had a dream about becoming the first astronaut selected for a mission to Mars - only to be publicly disqualified at the last second because they uncovered this on his "permanent record."

In this day and age I would be spending more energy figuring out if any of my looney friends posted wierd pictures of me on FB as a bigger threat than a single disciplinary offense.

When Senator McCain spoke at the USMMA graduation a few years back I seem to remember him saying something about setting a record for the number of demerits racked up in a single day.

I agree with the other posts, if you can not get it removed, be prepared to explain how the situation became a positive in your life.

I'm puzzled about your reference to the "Honor Committee".

If you are a 2016 appointee - when have you ever had any contact or any reason to answer questions from the "Honor Committee"?

So I went back to find the emails just right now to make sure I had correct information. Sorry for the miscommunication. Emails are signed by someone on the Character Review Committee.

Why you were suspended may make a difference in how the situation is considered.
