check out USMMA waterfront web page to see the newest Training vessel .

Not a bad way to spend spring break, does anyone know the history on this boat?

No clue about the history, but my family hails from Riverside NJ (my mom is still there and my sister lives in a condo on the river in the next town). There are a number of marinas on the Delaware in that area with some good-sized boats. DH's (baxted's) family belonged to the Red Dragon Yacht Club a few miles up the river. I do recognize the dock in the photo, just south of the Ben Franklin Bridge. Looks like a nice addition to the fleet.:thumb:

Would sailing on this vessel count toward 300 / 360 sea days for a license?

Kind of sort of, but not really. The majority of your sea days must come from unlimited tonnage vessels, which mariner is not. So a few of them will count, but not a ton.

Can anyone give an example of what type ships that you I would get sea time on .

Anything bigger than 1600 tons, container ships, oil tankers, car carriers, some ferries, and military sealift command resupply ships just to name a few.

Sea time requirements for USMMA are set out in the Academy's USCG course approval letter. Anything over 500 tons (for deckies) and 2500 hp (for engineers) can count toward the days allowed. 17 days aboard Academy training vessels can count toward the 360 needed for deckies. Engineers who spend time on the offshore team or power squadron can use that deck time toward a limited masters license (100 ton or 200) ton, and we have had several do this in the last few years- sort of our new mini-dual program.

Well, at least the boys from washington will have a nice yacht to cruise in while visiting the mids.

BAZANGA..................

Happy sailing MARAD..........I would prefer it to be OFF LIMITS 'some' people. There should be NO rewards to those who would bring disgrace.

Just MY OPINION, folks.....Just sayin'.......... :guns4:
