Yesturday I discovered I received an EA for field training......And so did 93% of all other applicants. Comparing these staggering results to previous years, something isn't right.
My theory: They are re-doing how officership is earned. Instead of weeding us out before field training, they will do so during field training. I feel this way because our cadre informed us that if we fail the PFA, FTM, or any other test we will be cut (unlike prior years). So maybe the standards are higher and they accepted so many applicants because they are counting on a few hundred dropping out. I'm sorry if this sounds so pessimistic
What do you guys think?

Based on other threads it sounds to me more like they weeded out cadets prior to sending in applications for SFT. Of course that would resul tin the higher percentage. Way to find the gray cloud around the silver lining tho! Even if you're right the simjple solution is to make sure you pass the tests. Besides, I'm not familiar with AF or SFT but wouldn't failing the tests also resul tin dismissal in the past? I would think it would, but what do I know? Good luck at SFT!

They only increased the number of cadets at field training by 100 from last year. Many fewer applicants for those slots.

Your 'theory' there is wrong on all counts. All past year groups have had to pass their tests at Field Training in order to stay and that includes the PFA.

Nothing is changing. Why would the Air Force pay the airfare and supplies to send 'a few hundred' cadets to go to Alabama and get kicked out the same week?

You're sounding paranoid, and all I can tell you is that you should pass your evaluations at Field Training.

Also just been informed that not everyone will be conducting Flight Drill Eval. only your flight.

I'm just gonna come along now and say let's at least enjoy a week of EAs and then start spreading the rumors about field training :thumb:

That's not different from prior years. Field training isnt a competition. Its just an evaluation. If you meet standards you pass. The only reasons I've seen people get sent home are (1 getting injured, (2 failing the PFA and (3 integrity violations

caracas, I also heard the same things you did; however, it's not terribly different from past years. The FTM has always stated that these things must be satisfactorily passed in order to make it through field training. On top of this, the written tests we must pass are open-book. As long as we're very familiar with the FTM/AM, then we'll be okay.

bpenquin,

Beware of open book tests, they are usually harder than traditional tests because they are looking for exact detail and if you don't where to find it, you will usually chew up time searching for it.

Open book lures people into thinking they can study less and rely on the book.

As far as the passing issue, I think people are forgetting an important factor. The AF upped the numbers by only 100, but cadets are seeing that 90% and their missing the big picture. The 90% is because the competition had been whittled down by a large amount. The AF has determined how many AFROTC cadets they need for the class of 14. Class of 14 was the start of fewer scholarships, and if I recall correctly no IS scholarships. They have balanced the class size to their man power needs, thus the 90%. Nothing more or less, just meeting the long term strategic manpower needs. Additionally, looking at the EA list on this site, the stats appear to be higher than they have been in yrs.

Nick went through SFT. Listen to him. He was given the same spiel as our DS and you...bust and you are on a plane home. The amount that bust are few and far between. IMPO they deserve to be on a plane home. Look at the EA list results you all are in the 90's. There is no reason anyone should assume that they will bust at Maxwell. Only reason why is you came home in May, and played Xbox until the day you boarded the plane, never working out.

That being stated, remember your ranking out of Maxwell be part of your OML. The CC, IMPO, is stating this to you because come home with bottom 50% of your class, and there is very little they can do for you. It is a % dictated by AFROTC HQ when it comes to the AFSC board.

Do not take this as "whew, I am safe, just biding time!" This is now the time you change your perspective and say, "I need to hit this out of the ballpark for my career". This is about next yr as a C300 and bringing these skills back to my unit as a POC.

Old joke about 1st LTs(C200 in your ex) and Captains (C300). You know why O3's have railroad tracks and O2's don't? To catch the sheeaat! As a 300 you will no longer be that give them a 2nd chance cadet, you will now be the you should have none better cadet!
