I live in the NYC Metro. On TV in bewtween all the stories of Tim Tebow and Linsanity we have a lot of commercials for the Air Force and Navy. I have not seen this amount of them in years. Is this the case in the rest of the country? Just wondering if you are seeing them too where you live?

We live in the Seattle area.

I have noticed a greater number of commercials for the Navy and the Air Force, of course the AF commercials look a lot like an ad for the next SciFi Movie.

I have also seen quite a few for the Marines. The Army has had some but not quite the advertising blitz the Navy and AF have been doing.

Seems like a lot of advertising for services that are cutting back. I am thinking about a person that posted here just a while back that failed to commission due to some NROTC issue, weight issue I believe, that was not allowed to enlist but was made to pay back the scholarship because the Navy said they were not taking any enlisted at the time. Seems strange considering the amount of ads they are running.

I wonder if they are having more sailors and airmen leave the service then they had anticipated.

I would think they're doing it to keep up the brand and keep people aware of the military.

I've been noticing the Marines advertisements in particular. Not to be cynical, but it's possible the money was budgeted a couple of years ago, the agencies were engaged after the customary beauty contest to make the commercials and the time slots were bought in bulk.

Marines too

They are sponsoring the Knicks. Spot on about the Air Force. Those commercials are almost movie trailers for Starship Troopers.

I'm way down south and I haven't seen any really in the past year or so. There was a Marine one on a couple of months ago and they have tons of posters up, but I've seen nothing from the other branches

I read somewhere that the Marines, though downsizing, are supposedly doing it through attrition. Maybe it was on military.com. I believe they will still recruit though perhaps not heavily.

The Navy and AF are probably targeting their marketing to certain under represented groups and geographical areas. Plus it is Spring and many HS seniors are making decisions now about their futures.

The truth is too painfull

Yea, the picture of the burger always looks better than the real thing.

Air Force - The ad said I'd be operating UAVs in theater, but now Im guarding a MinuteMan II missile in Minot, in February

Coast Guard - The ad showed me driving a fast boat on a drug interdiction in Miami. But Im counting Zebra muscles on a tug in Milwaukee.

Navy - The Ad showed me free fall parachuting with the Seals, but Im scraping paint off a ship in dry dock. But Its San Diego so not all is bad

Army - The Ad showed me driving a tank simulator. But here I am changing wheel bearing grease on a bus in El Paso.

Marines - The ad showed me pulling a sword out of a rock. Nobody told me that I had to go to college and get a commision to get one of those cool swords. But hey, Im in Okinawa.

The reality is they are looking for the biggest bang for their buck

NY may see a lot through WABC, but Sanford, NC through WRAL won't. Reason why is FT BRAGG is their media market.

In our area I have seen AF 3 to 1 compared to Marine, but no Navy, Army or CG.

We live in Northern VA, 30 miles outside of the Pentagon.
