Need some insight on how a USNA candidate can receive word in mid-February from Admissions that he is not academically qualified - having decidedly unspectacular ACT/SAT scores as the stated disqualifier - to notification by the Blue & Gold Officer - via e-mail to candidate - about one month later that he is now academically qualified!? with that info. just popping up out of the blue on the Blue and Gold Officer's information system. I swear...is this the twilight zone ro something??!! Ideas on this??

Did the candidate retake the ACT/SAT and score higher?

SAT taken 3 times...ACT taken 3 times - all submitted/posted to USNA. The last of any of the tests was the 9-10-11 ACT which posted late October
2011. That last ACT was the best of the bunch - not spectacular, but not dreadful either, so when the "academically not qualified" status came from Admissions in February, it wasn't surprising...disappointing yes, but not surprising. So plans B,C,D,and E already in full-steam ahead mode, transitioned to become the "new" plans A,B,C, and D - they all got a bump up, a promotion in theory and execution.

Only thing that comes to my mind is that one of them was sent in error. I would suggest calling admissions in an effort to get the confusion cleared up regarding candidates academic status. I'd be curious as to what the portal indicated if anything as well, but that's just me and I'm not sure I would trust it in this circumstance anyway.

I believe your BGO can check to be certain your are 3Q. I would call him and ask for a clarification especially if you want an answer before Monday when admissions office opens.

DS did call his BGO the day after the BGO sent DS the e-mail saying he was now showing up on the BGIS (?) (I think that was the acronym stated in the e-mail) as academically qualified. DS, not to mention the entire household here, was delighted and confused all at the same time. He tried calling right away - it was early evening, after DS's baseball game, and left a voicemail saying he would try again around lunch the next day. He did reach him by phone at lunch and BGO said indeed there had been a change, he did not know why, he just thought DS would like to know of it. BGO couldn't say for sure when the change had occurred since he had not checked the system for about a week or so - so it remains in the  department for DS, the DS cheerleading squad (his family!), and the BGO.

That's great news jar. Please let us know 'the rest of the story' when the time arrives.

We do tend to get very locked-in on the SAT/ACT scores and forget the bigger part of academic qualification is the school transcript. I suspect this is what is giving rise to the confusion here. Just saying...
