Vision Question re. AROTC

My DD wants to follow my DS and apply for and hopefully earn an Army ROTC scholarship. She is presently a junior in HS, so she still has a year to go. My DodMERB question is...she wears contact lens (unlike her brother who has perfect vision). She also will wear glasses, but as a girl in HS she obviously prefers to wear contacts during school hours. Will her vision DQ her in the DoDMERB process or does it cause any hang-ups on the medical end?
 
It depends on the condition of her eyes, whether the condition is disqualifying, and, if disqualifying, whether the condition is waiverable. DoDMERB will determine if the condition is disqualifying per Army standards, and the Army will determine if the condition is waiverable and if she warrants a waiver.

Important thing to remember before everyone panics is that the condition may not even be disqualifying in the first place.
 
DoDMERB will also ask her to stop wearing contacts for a certain amount of time before her eye exam. I don't remember exactly, but I think it was a couple of weeks. You'll get notice of that though when the time comes.
 
+1 to nuensis. There are a lot of factors regarding this issue, wearing glasses/contacts are not an out the door biggie. It is the parameters that will be the biggie.
 
Google this and you will get an idea if your DD meets the requirements. Even if you think she does not, apply anyway. Just because you think she will be dq'd doesn't mean she will and even if she is she may get a waiver. My son wears glasses/contacts and we were sure he would be good for Army and AF but thought he would need a waiver for CG but he was good for all three. You won't know for sure until she goes through the process.
 
Thank you for your replies. Your answers have been helpful. DD simply wants to make sure that her vision (which is corrected to 20/20 with her contacts/glasses) will not cost her a shot at earning a scholarship next year.

That bodes well for her. There are diopter limits as well but being correctable to 20/20 is a big deal.
