How much weight do the advanced placement tests carry on ones application? I scored a 2 on my AP Chem test my sophmore year, yet still carried a B in the class, so I was wondering how much this will affect my application.

They let ya'll take AP Chem soph year! That's crazy yet cool! But I don't have the info to answer your question...

I might be wrong, but even though your AP class will show on your HS transcript I don't think the AFA will see your scores unless you submit them yourself (either through the test booklet when you took the exam or contacting collegeboard directly after the fact.)

If you are taking an AP class, you are not required to take the AP test. (edit: that policy may be different depending on the high school.)

Yeah probably wasn't a great idea though, as I was in a class full of seniors, and obviously I didn't pass the test haha

That is true, but I figured somewhere between the countless interviews and what not, that it would come up eventually. Well my highschool gives it to everyone, but I'm sure anyone who was that opposed to taking it wouldn't have to do so, but possible college credit doesnt sound too bad

It certainly doesn't, but if I felt like I wasn't going to pass then I wouldn't bother spending the $80 to take the test.

AP tests don't have any weight in your application. The AP class does but the test itself doesn't. If you get into the academy, you will submit AP test scores to try and validate (you'll also have to take a test perhaps) in order to get the credit but a 2 will not allow you to do that.

Ok thats good to hear, I've been worrying about that for awhile. Yeah I know, lol even if I could validate it, with the knowledge of chemistry I have, that wouldn't be very smart.

Sort-of off topic, but consider yourself VERY LUCKY. I have to go pay my $66 per exam for 6 tests tomorrow... :(

Oh I know, I feel for you guys that have to pay! It's a shame that so many people in my AP classes take it as a joke, and won't even take the test seriously. Wish they could be replaced with people like you, but that's a lot of tests, good luck in May !

If it helps, I only took 3 AP's in high school (my school only offered 5). AP Biology, AP US History, AP Literature. I got 2's on my Bio and History and a 3 on my Literature. I had a C in AP Bio, A in history and A in Lit. I don't know if that helps, but thought you might see what a prep kid had!
