Question,

I got my rejection letter yesterday, and there wasn't anything in it about prep school. If USAFA was to offer a candidate the opportunity to go to prep school, would it come in the same letter? Or would it be in a separate letter? Thank you!

Any clue on how long it would be? I am debating whether or not to send in the USNA acceptance yet... Thanks COL.

Firstly congrats on the USNA appointment! I believe that only Insider would know about your question, but admissions told me that they have already started sending them out, and slots are being filled. You will be notified of your USAFAPS appointment through your portal first.

Preppies

On a regular year PS letters would generally go out 2 weeks prior to the class becoming full. However this is not a regular year, I would like to believe that you will know by the end of April seeing as how all appointees must accept by the 15th. This will then let the Academy move onto the next phase and send out PS offers, or maybe even an appointment to you. Even tho you already got you TWE it is still possible for you to be drawn into the national pool and take one of the slots that another candidate turned down. It was made very clear in my BFE this year that those of us notified in the first wave needed to get shots and measurement within 2 weeks, but that those that are going to be hearing at a later day (Likely the end of April or early May) will have more time to complete the shots and measurements. In fact it said that for those students they will have up until June 15th to complete all the BFE info... I believe that this means appointments could be going out as late as June 1, even if you have a TWE. My ALO told me that a few years ago he had a student become notified of his appointment on the 7th of June. Prep School doesn't being basic until Mid July, so their offers could be latter.

Sorry for this Jumble of information, but I hope it helps. PM me if you like

Were I you...if USNA is a GOOD "Plan B" for you...I would accept it.

What's the worst thing that happens? USAFA PS suddenly sends you an offer...you take that, inform USNA, and some candidate somewhere that has a TWE from USNA suddenly gets a BFE?

Again, IF you are serious about USNA, I'd accept it.
(And yes, I really am a USAFA grad...who ALMOST accepted his USNA offer!)

So does this mean that anyone rejected from direct appointment to the USAFA would be given consideration for the Prep school or falcon foundation?

or.....

Does that only apply to people with low academics but have 'great' packages.

Lots of ppl are offered (and accept) the P school for a number of reasons. "Low" academics is relative, of course.

Athletes, people who have great academics but are missing, say, higher math or science simply because their local schools did not offer such subjects.

The Prep School is truly a golden ticket to a bright future.

So if someone had a 650-700 SAT / 30+ ACT score is it likely they will be offered prep?

And....

What are the qualifications for being awarded a Falcon Foundation scholarship?

Quoted from http://falconfoundation.org/:

Must be at least 17 years of age and not have passed their 22nd birthday on 1 July of the year they are admitted to a prep school.

Must be a citizen of the United States.

Must be unmarried and have no dependent children.

Must, as a minimum, meet the established medical standards for a commission in the United States Air Force.

Must have completed the USAFA Pre-candidate Questionnaire (PCQ), have been entered into the candidate phase, and have completed all parts of the candidate kit if entered into the candidate phase.

Be qualified for entry to USAFA by the USAFA Admissions Office.

The USAFA Admissions Office will consider each application, school records and references. Based on all available information, the USAFA Admissions Office will compare each applicant's qualifications to the following criteria:

Motivation to enter and graduate from USAFA and, thereafter, to follow a lifetime career as an officer in the United States Air Force.

Scholastic achievements.

Qualities of maturity, truthfulness, courage, unselfishness, fellowship, and devotion to duty.

Exhibition of moral force of character and leadership and an interest in others.

Physical vigor as shown by a fondness for, and participation and success in, sports.

From my notes during an Admissions briefing at Summer Seminar...

"Falcon Foundation-about 100 QNV"

"Prep-not completely qualified candidates. 25 ACT range."

The AF officer who came and talked to us said he was accepted to Prep way back when with a 17 (!) on his ACT math. He told us the ranges for test scores for potential cadet candidates are higher now, but that was still really inspiring to hear.

The way he described it was that the first 100 QNV are basically taken out of the national pool and offered Falcon scholarships. I don't know exactly how that's going to work this year with the wait list and all...

Is that 25 ACT overall? My overall ACT was a 32 because I scored 36 in the reading and mid-low 30s in math, reading, and English. My science reasoning section was around 27, though.

Would someone with low leadership opportunities also have a chance for a P school appointment or is it only for people low on the academic spectrum?

Also from my notes...

Prep school average test scores:
(500-590) SAT Reading
(500-620) SAT Math

(21-27) ACT Math
(21-26) ACT English
(21-27) ACT Reading
(21-26) ACT Science

Obviously, none of us really know what they're going to do or what cutoff they'll set for this year.

Is there a separate review board for USAFAPS?
I would think it would be the same group. I think they look at the WCS of the Candidates that they do not offer appointments to and ask themselves, "Who, among these, do we have the best possibility of shaping in to exceptional candidates for the Class of 2017, if we put them through our Prep school?" I think the poeple who will make that selection next year are best suited to choose for Prep this year.
I don't think they choose candidates for Prep that are exceptional, but there were 1,000 others just a little more exceptional. I think they pick candidates that would benefit from some "Prep"aration for the rigorous academic demands of the Academy, candidates that are a little weak academically, but otherwise have outstanding qualities.

per the FB Admissions page:

"prep school offers will go out during April and the first part of May."
