Class of 2016-Mailbox Stalkers Club

All LEAD, Falcon Foundation, and Prep School offers should be finalized next week (although some may be notified as early as today).

The exception is recruited athletes... prep school offers for them can continue into June.

Best wishes to all and good luck...

Great.... :unhappy:

My mom sent me a text about this post and quickly, several of us here have started wondering if today is our day?! Ahhh! But until then, more waiting...

Thanks, Pontiac and LFry!
and darn, until June?? Don't worry skydivingkittens, we'll still be there for you!

Notifications

No notifications will be made today. They should appear early to mid next week (Prep School and Falcon).

Prep School offers will appear on your portal and letters/packets will arrive shortly afterward. The accept/decline process for the Prep School will NOT be online this year (those offered will need to return the form).

Falcon Foundation scholarship offers will have an online accept/decline process.

There will be no more appointments offered (for direct entry) until late April.

Good luck all...

What does this mean for LEAD candidates? Thank you for the updates!

clarification, please

Does this mean that if you don't already have an appointment for direct entry, or are waitlisted for an appointment for direct entry, that you are not going to get an appointment for direct entry?

.

By that, may I assume that you mean 'current' Falcons will receive their appointments early to mid next week?

I can't say say that is 100% at this point. There are usually a few exceptions (but for the most part that is true). I assume you are wondering about LEAD... it isn't certain as of now that no LEAD candidates will be offered direct entry. There may be some offered (depends really on the final acceptance rate). Still, most LEAD candidates selected will be offered Prep School.

No, I'm referring to new offers for Falcon Scholarships. Current Falcons won't hear until late April (at the earliest).

Thank you so much for keeping us posted! You are a welcome light in a dark place.

I should note that about 30 appointments were entered yesterday (most of them are "internationals"). However, about 7 or 8 new MOC appointments that will appear on the portal on Tuesday morning. Those receiving them should hear from the MOC before then, however.

As others have noted, thank you so much Insider for being a valuable source of information on the admissions process.

As a parent of a current Falcon, I am frustrated and puzzled as to why their notifications are pushed back so far.

--Falcons are competitive candidates or they would not have received the scholarship.

--They have developed and matured further during the last year of training.

--They have further demonstrated their commitment to USAFA by adding an extra year to their education, in many cases turning down ROTC and other scholarships at civilian universities to do so.

--The acceptance rate of Falcons is quite high. Except for, as others have noted, unfortunate or immature incidents that disqualify a specific individual.

--They have been implicitly and in some cases explicitly told the admission slot is theirs to lose.

--It gets even tougher for them to have a decent plan B if you make them wait beyond the May 1 deadline for most civilian universities.

Why keep them waiting?

As a parent of a current Falcon I get your frustration. However consider the groups that are still waiting: LEAD, Falcons, Prep school. All these candidates are captive in that they are highly committed to USAFA. As you said, it is difficult for your DS to even have a B plan at this late date. From the viewpoint of USAFA, these candidates have the least alternatives and therefore have become the lowest priority for the issuance of appointments. The priority in the appointment process has clearly been on other candidates that are more likely to go elsewhere including competitive candidates that have already received the TWE. That is why the Falcon scholarships are being awarded next week in an effort to capture some very desirable folks that just missed an appointment before they decide to go somewhere else. And then at the very end of the process, we will finally hear. Consider that this is exactly why Falcons this year for the first time received a LOA in January. Admissions knew this was going to be an extremely long haul.

So while I share your frustration, I do see the logic.

I don't disagree but since Insider is available, I certainly wouldn't mind hearing first hand the rationale for this playing out like it has with the Falcons and prepsters this year.
