Does anyone else have problems replying to private messages? Or am I uniquely ungifted technologically?

On various occasions I've attempted to reply to PMs only to be logged off and have my response disappear into the void. It's frustrating to say the least after taking the time to compose a sincere and poignant message, sometimes two or three times, only to find out that the sole accomplishment was to practice my ttyping.

I don't know if parent Delahanty is alone in this, but I haven't had any problems. Have you tried a different browser or device?

I have had some problems with this also, both PM and regular posts. I believe there is an automatic sign off after a certain time period and while we are typing replies the system takes it as an inactive log in. Try periodically previewing your PMs (seems to work like the save button in Word). I'm a long winded kinda gal and thought I might be the only one too.

I'm not sure if this problem is solely isolated to PM's. But I've lost messages when I first started on this forum because my account timed out while I was composing the message. The OP states that he takes careful time to compose his message, so he is probably experiencing the same issue I had.

My solution is to always copy my message after I finish it. That way if my account has timed out, I can got back to the reply portion of the message and "Paste" my response back into it.

A trick I use on systems that tend to time out is every once in a while is to highlight all of your text, right click, and then choose copy. This holds that text. If you find the system has timed out when you click the submit button then you can always recreate the message by pasting the held text.

I always highlight/copy my text just before hitting submit.

Sorry. Didn't see other post with same suggestion.

My solution as well.

Just hit the "preview post" button every once in a while while typing your message and it won't time out on you.
