Nomination Question

I am a candidate for the USMA Class of 2017. I was accepted to SLS earlier this year. Basically, my congressman is up for re-election this November and there is a substantial chance that he will lose. If I get a nomination in November, and he loses, will my nomination be valid? I really hope so because I have been working on a relationship with his office for a long time. Thanks in advance for all responses.

It should be, yes. There is a sort of congressional etiquette involved here I believe.

I know that the nomination will count only from your current Congressman, I was concerned with the same issues. How have you been contacting your office and keeping in touch with them?

If he loses, the new congressman will not be taking office until mid Jan. 2013. Your current congressman will therefore essentially be making the appointments. The new congressman will be unable to start the nomination process anew with just 2 weeks left before they must be submitted and he or she will be too busy anyway. Also, there is the aforementioned congressional etiquite. Have no worries, you'll be OK.

You officially get a nomination once it shows up on the portal. And the nominations only show up on the portal after the official slate with 10 names is submitted. Therefore, I suppose that, if your Congressman submits the slate, you will be nominated, even if he loses. What I suppose COULD happen is, if the Congressman (or whoever handles nominations in his office) does not send the nominations slate, you might not be nominated.

In the end - ask them when they normally submit the nominations slate, if you have any concerns about it.
