I can choose either AP calc, or AP psych, but not both. I am a junior and I am currently in Alg 2 (a year behind most of my friends) and I am going for the IB diploma. So, in order to get the diploma I need to be in IB math, which is pre-calc. I will be taking that next year for sure, but I also wanted to get into Calculus somehow. I spoke with my counselor and I can take pre-calc over the summer at a junior college, then take AP calc my senior year, but then I will still have to sit in IB math regardless in order to receive the diploma. So i would be doubling up on my math classes. OR I could just take IB math next year and do AP psych instead.

From what I have read, West Point likes 4 years of science, but they are also very math heavy. What would West Point prefer? Seeing that I doubled up on math to get into calculus, or a fourth year of science?

Unless I am mistaken, psych isn't a science course, and is mandatory for west point's ciriculum. I would suggest the math option since it will better prepare you for the academy's math and science program. Always better to be a step ahead rather than a step behind.

As you may or may not have figured out at this point in your academic career, math and science are inseparable. Since, as logic would lead me to this conclusion, you would need pre-calc to take Calc, it seems like you have the decision to either take calc or earn the IB diploma. Personally, I think the former would help you more for USMA; the latter is a piece of paper.

Also, you can't get any credit for AP Psych... so why take it?

Sorry if there is any confusion, but I can take calc and get the diploma. The question is whether calc is more valuable to West Point than a fourth year of science. But if you don't get credit for psych, then I don't see a point to it either.

You probably already know this, but psych is a social science and not a phyiscal science. Definitely take calc, but try to make room in your schedule for chem and physics (APs or IBs if available!)

I already took Honors Medical Chemistry (they don't offer AP chem at my school) and I am currently taking IB Physics. I will definitely sign up for AP calc though. Thanks for the help!
