I am just now returning from the Mission Command Conference at USMA. What an awesome event. I joined 135 combat leaders from the Army and Marine Corps to mentor cadets over a 2-day session. We spoke to the entire USMA Class of 2012, as well as 180 ROTC cadets representing 95 different colleges, as well as a select group of USNA cadets who've branched USMC.

We got to engage cadets on small group level, discussing tactical leadership challenges and issues, covering everything from dealing with war-weary soldiers to securing a downed aircraft, to managing tactical assets and partner forces. The cadets were fantastic.

If your child is a USNA or ROTC cadet, I highly recommend he or she seek out the chance to attend.

Hi Scout,
I was wondering how your trip went. Thanks for the report. It sounds really interesting. I'll be letting my DS know about it.

It was great. I tried very hard during each small group session to grab a mix of male and female, USMA and ROTC, combat arms and support. The cadets were impressive and I got to talk about some subjects that are near and dear to me but new to them. I think some eyes were opened.

I have a lot of faith in our new leaders.
