I've been aiming to attend the CGA since elementary school and I've set my goals high for school in order to get in. What do you think my chances are of getting in next year and what else do you think I should do in order to increase my chances and make me stand out?

- recently elected to my 4th term as class president
- recently elected president of student council overall
- active in the Ohio Association of Student Councils
- going on my 3rd year as a varsity soccer captain
- going on my 4th year as a varsity soccer starter
- captain of my club soccer team
- captain of my sailing team
- 10 years of experience competitive sailing (the last 3 years qualifying for the National Doublehanded Championship and took 5th place at the Backus Cup Women's Singlehanded National Championship)
- member of national honor society
- member of national spanish honor society
- high honor roll
- 4.019 W GPA
- 3.98 normal GPA
- near 30 hours community service
- marching band class representative
- going in my 3rd year as a squad leader
- clarinet section leader
- concert band, concert choir, show choir
- regional qualifier for track in the 4x800 meter relay
- board of christian education at my church

These aren't even all of the things I'm active and involved in... But I have spoken with the women's soccer coach and the chances of my playing there for soccer are very good - if I get in. Also, is admission into AIM any indication of my chances of getting into the academy? Thanks in advance for all of your help - I can use anything! :)

You look extremely qualified, just succeed academically to increase your class rank (if your school ranks), and take the SAT/ACT until you feel like you have the most competitive scores you can get. I'd say try to do Girl's State as well if you have the opportunity. AIM is an accomplishment, If you look at posts elsewhere on this board it says something like 50% of appointees go to AIM. Though this also doesn't mean 50% of those that go to AIM get into CGA.

Keep up the great work!!

You look great overall, but the one thing I noticed was that you had a high GPA but a relativly low weighted GPA. I don't know if you are on a 6.0 scale, but you should strive to take the hardest classes available, especiall AP/IB. If your high school doesn't offer many APs, dual enroll at your local community college.

Our GPA is out of a 4.0 scale. The reason I am above is if you take an honors/AP class and get an A+ then it is calculated as a 4.3 and I have had two A+ in honors/AP classes!

And thank you otherwise!

Note : I am in all college credit/AP courses and I currently have 30 semester hours at our local community college! I have never earned a grade lower than an A- (which is calculated as a 3.6/4.0)... Here is the basic snap shot of our grading scale :

A+ (in my honors classes it is calculated as a 4.3/4.0)
A : 4.0
A- : 3.6
B+ : 3.3

So just to clarify, my current GPA (just checked with guidance this morning) is 3.98/4.0 normal and 4.11 weighted GPA. Thanks again for all the help, I'm still hopeful but nervous!

What APs have/will you take? PSAT score or act so far? From what I understand many colleges including Cga are now placing more emphasis on tests than ranking. Extra currics look really really great. What instrument? That can make a big difference... :)

Our "honors classes" are all PSEO Credit (college credit) instead of AP so they're referred to as AP because our administration claims its "technically the same thing...". Anyways, I should have specified that, sorry! But the classes that I have taken for Honors/PSEO include :
- Biology I (A)
- American History I (A)
- American History II (A)
- Chemistry (A)
- Pre - Calc (A)
- College Composition I (A)
- Intro to American Literature (A)

I was registered to take the SAT on June 2nd, but my acceptance into NASS deterred that plan because it starts June 2nd... My PSAT scores should be much higher, but I took the test the morning after recieving a concussion and minor skull fractures in my soccer game. I wasn't going to come to school, but the PSAT is only offered once a year. Needless to say, I was "thrilled" to be sitting there taking a test... haha but my PSAT scores are :
- critical reading : 58
- mathematics : 56
- writing skills : 54

Here in Ohio, the ACT is pushed far more than the SAT. I haven't even heard my guidance counselor encourage anyone to take the SAT once... So here are my scores for my first ACT. They're not the best, but I will be taking it again in August!
- english : 26
- mathematics : 26
- reading : 31
- science : 26

In band, clarinet is my main instrument. But I'm playing tuba this year in marching band because I was asked to... I can play piano, violin, and saxophone pretty fluently as well!

Thanks for all of the help and responses!

Stick to tuba. Brass players are sought after. practice on those tests! just think only 4 more points in 3 categories for a round of 30's! take as many sciences and ap's as you can.
