Just curious, nothing critically important, in years gone by (the corps has...) Recognition Day used to be maybe sometime in March or so. Ball park. I just found out that this year it won't happen until Graduation Day. Seems like it's kinda late for the Firstie's to recognize the Plebes when the Firstie's are gonna be busy graduating and leaving. Anyone understand why the schedule shifted back so far?
Again, just curious.
Thanks,
RLTW

It has been that way as far as any of the cadets here remember. I think it actually happens the day before graduation (promotions are what happen the day of) but I could be wrong.

That's how it was when I was there in the mid-80's. Graduation parade the day before graduation, then recognition in the company area afterward. Maybe you're thinking of USAFA?

Interesting! I base my thoughts *not* on actually having done it, only what I have heard and read, such as this from 1998: The Joys of Recognition: A First Name and a Bathrobe

http://www.nytimes.com/1998/04/05/education/the-joys-of-recognition-a-first-name-and-a-bathrobe.html?pagewanted=all&src=pm

Fascinating that I hear more than one version of it. Again, just a curious thing to me.

Regarding this year, I heard that from another parent, I have yet to see anything official posted, but would love to know for sure.

Anyone heard for certain?

What do you want to know for certain? It's the military - the only constant is change. Has it ever changed? Most probably! I know for certain back in the 80's recognition was right before graduation. Everything I'd read until that point (ie 60's and 70's) supported the same, although they used to send the plebes out to Camp Buckner early during that grad week time. AF confirmed it's the same now.

Anyone from the 90's able to confirm something different from that era?

I actually think it works better that way than the way USAFA does it - seems like then you have about a 2 month period of kind of limbo. Still not allowed to actually be "friends" (even on facebook) or date the upperclass (my son's squadron had several frat hits during that time last year), but technically recognized so no 4/c duties, but stuff still needs to get done (laundry delivery).

Reply from 1991

I am class of 1991 we were recognized after the Graduation Day Parade. I believe Class of 1994 and 1995 were recognized after Plebe Parent Week.

I remember recognizing you! :shake: Well, maybe not YOU personally, but your class at least. Didn't realize it changed a few years later which must be when the article is from!

Primarily the date this year, secondarily just any background info, for curiosity sake alone. I just like learning about the ethos of cadet life and the history of the traditions. Nothing earth-shattering.

Thanks,

I am not sure the date this year. I was 2001 and we were recognized the day before Plebe Parent Week.

2015 will be recognized the day before graduation. That's what all of the upperclassmen have been telling us at least. As AF said, recognition has happened the day before gradution for a few years now so it's looking like things will be no different this year.

BEAT NAVY!

Just struck me today that maybe I have a clue here, gonna toss this out for your consideration. Talking to an "old" grad (Class of 1980 I think...) who out of the blue asked me if Recognition Day had happened yet this year. I said I don't think so yet, and the reply was something like "Yeah, we haven't beat Navy in a while." Which got me thinking, could it be that early Recognition is a privilege that at least some years happens due to Army beating Navy? I hear that beating Navy can be a factor on some privileges anyway, so it made me wonder if this could be a factor for why Recognition Day may fluctuate.

Your thoughts?

Other things that could typically happen with an Army win??

BEAT NAVY!
