Since my son will be in China for fall semester, today he had his 2 for 7 signing ceremony. WOW, how time flies!!! half way done!!

Wow. Is he doing an exchange program? I'm curious as to where he will stay and are there Chinese students studying at USNA?

I'm on a need to know basis....which means I know nothing!

he's spending 6 weeks in China this summer and the entire next semester. .....that's all I know.

LOL. Isn't it great being a parent? Congrats to your son.

It's so much fun!

Since we lived in China recently and he speaks Chinese, I'm not too worried... Just would like to know the when and the where!

Oh cool, it sounds like he might participating in the Chinese ROTC Flagship initiative. My future school sent out info about this where they help ROTC students of all majors become fluent in Chinese. Once you reach certain levels of fluency you get to go there for a summer and then an entire year.

Singaporemom:

Daughter did six weeks summer and then full Semester in China. Chinese major. If he has a heads up on Mandarin great and with background with the language will most probably get a semester. He should apply for all available China summer and full semester classes available. Have him go to the pearl market in Beijing or Tiangin and bring some stuff back for Mom and every one else in the family. In Tianjin they never saw an American with blue eyes and blond hair and thought she was a Russian. Kids followed her down the street because they had very rarely seen a westerner or anyone over 5' 10". Daughter did the six weeks in Tiangin for summer and then semester in Beiging. Woman going with her from USNA had dark hair and dark eyes. Chinese said her friend couldn't be an American. All Americans are blond with blue eyes. They get a Chinese roomate who is studiying English as a second language. They work well togther. Get Skype or Oovo for communication. It worked well from USA to CHINA and muuch better than phone $$$$.

As a byline they get Per Diem. Get their food off the economy and they make money to buy the pearls for Mom.

Had a sponsor daughter in 2013 do same thing last summer, first semester this year - ditto all great advice above. Am sure they all know each other and will pick up great pass-down gouge.

Thanks for the tips.... I'm sure he will have an amazing time. He has 4 years high school Chinese plus 2 years at USNA, has studied in both Singapore and China. He is psyched!!!

He should be. It was a great experience for my daughter. Trip to the Wall was a blast. Great pictures.

My son spent last summer in China as well. He probably learned more during those 6 weeks than he did during the previous 6 years. Well, not quite, but you get the idea.

We too, had no idea where he was going to be when, neither he nor we knew which airline/flight he was going to be on...nothing. That's quite an interesting experience for parents, but it was all good. He absolutely loved his time there and was still laughing weeks later at all the attention he got as a half Chinese/half white 6'2" guy. Girls (including teachers and tutors) were crying when he left. No kidding:shake::shake::shake:

Congrats on your son's signing of his 2-7, singaporemom. Time sure does fly!!!
