Making the trip from California for A-Day
Can anyone recommend a good date to arrive.
Unfortunately we won't be able to be there for March back:frown:

Also
Thinking about returning that Monday A.M.

Friday morning is ideal although if you're coming all the way from California you may have to get there Thursday to be there by Friday morning. If you get there any sooner, you really won't be able to see your New Cadet because they will have little free time and have to be escorted by his team leader who is even busier taking care of his own things while showing your New Cadet the ropes.

If you want to see the campus and think the extra hotel night (or more, if you're flying all the way from California you might as well see a few of the sights in the city) is worth it, you could get there a day early and possibly sign up for a tour. Most New Cadets want to get out for the brief window of time they are allowed to seeing the campus in depth will be unlikely at this point since the last thing a lot of them want to do is tour the place they've been stuck at for 7 weeks.

America's Finest,

Just to clarify, you are recommending early Friday arrival just for personal sight seeing, etc., yes?

I'm thinking the first official activity is the parade Saturday a.m. and the first chance to see our cadets will be after that parade?

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks!

From the west coast, our schedule was to fly out Friday morning into Newark, get up to USMA for late dinner, see parade etc. Saturday morning, take cadet out until Sunday time for 7pm accountability-- note that by that time, he was getting a little itchy thinking about what needed to be done for Monday; we could have left a bit sooner. We flew out Monday morning, but you could probably do a redeye back Sunday night.

I have a son in 2015.
I recommend that you come on Thursday because:
1. That insures that you will get there by Friday in case of an airline or weather problem
2. Take a day to look around West Point if you have not done that
3. Recover from the 3-hour "jet lag"

Yes, for some reason I was thinking the parade was on Friday while writting that. The minimum would be to get there Friday afternoon to get situated at the hotel (I don't think any flights would get you there Saturday morning and if they did, you probably don't want to risk it). I do recommend getting there 1-2 days early to see West Point as well as New York City (Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Ground Zero, etc.) if that is of interest to you.

And yes, New Cadets are typically released shortly after the parade.

Thank you..

Getting there Friday afternoon / evening sounds good..
I'll book the earliest flight available for Friday morning

Will take care of the sight seeing on R-Day with DS
Getting there about 4 days prior to spend family time in New York and help him get acclimated with the time change. Should be fun.. and sad:confused:

Thanks again,
And see you all there!!

Goo Army!!
