They are good for 10 years if you are 18yrs old (or older) when you apply. If under 18, I think they are only good for 5 yrs. So, if you are on the cusp of being 18, try to wait until after your birthday, if you can. It'll just save you less work.
Actually, passports are good for 10 years as long as you were at least 16 at date of issue. otherwise for those 15 and under it is only valid for 5 years. So at this point, since all incoming plebes must be 17 by I-day, it should be good for 10 years for all of us
