I don't have one, so should i get one before I-day?

it's a good idea to get one. i had to get 2 certified birth certificates one for the passport and one for admissions.

Might as well, it's not that they're ridiculously expensive. The things are good for ten years, and you'll probably want to (or need to) travel somewhere within the next decade.

If you have the time and money to get a passport before I-day, it's a good idea (but NOT required) to do so. There are a number of opportunities for Mids to go out of country, but it's harder for a Mid - especially a Plebe - to make the time to go put in the passport application.

It's funny how much getting a passport prior to plebe year is emphasized on USNA websites as they aren't going anywhere before the following summer. I think the idea - and a very good one at that - is that the plebe doesn't have to deal with the hassle of getting the passport plebe year prior to their youngster cruise. Barring that inconvenience while suffering plebe year, I don't think getting a passport prior to plebe summer is at all a necessity, but merely a wise, time-saving piece of advice.

Not required but a good idea. Easy to do before I-Day and something you may need for some summer cruises.

I think passport issues are well explained in the Permit to Report packet if I'm not mistaken.

They are good for 10 years if you are 18yrs old (or older) when you apply. If under 18, I think they are only good for 5 yrs. So, if you are on the cusp of being 18, try to wait until after your birthday, if you can. It'll just save you less work.

Actually, passports are good for 10 years as long as you were at least 16 at date of issue. otherwise for those 15 and under it is only valid for 5 years. So at this point, since all incoming plebes must be 17 by I-day, it should be good for 10 years for all of us

Yes, thanks for correcting me on that.
