Just curious, If candidates are going to be chosen off the waitlist, How does the process work. I understand that there is not a ranking order, so how do they go about choosing them. I realize that there is a slim too none of any candidates being chosen off the wait list this year. Why are so many (200 this year) waitlisted?

Wish I could give you the answers. I THINK (and this is only my guess) that whom they select off the WL may depend in part on who turns down USNA.

Let's say the candidate who was slotted to MD-1 (first congressional district of MD) turns down USNA. And let's say no one else from MD-1 has been appointed. USNA might look at the WL to see if there is anyone from that district. That ensures that district is represented. If they already have someone from MD-1 or there is no one on the WL from MD-1, I assume they'd pick the "best" candidate still on the WL.

As for why so many WL people, I don't know. In the past, USNA has never taken more than about 50 from the WL.

Wait List

My son has also been placed on the wait list. He received a letter a few weeks back stating that there were 70-100 students on the wait list. I have since read that someone called up to USNA and were told that there were 200 on the wait list...who do we believe???
USNA mom

you actually received a letter from the Academy with those stats?? My TWE just stated I was wait listed, and to send an official 3 qtr transcript.

Smith56, Don't you have another thread that says you are a junior and you are waiting to hear about the STEM program? The wait list we are referring to here is for entering into the academy and yes, the letter my DS received was that 70-120 candidates are on the wait list.

This Thread was started for those candidates that are waitlisted for direct entry into the Naval Academy.
Not NAPS, STEM etc. We were told when we called in to find out the status of my DS application that 200 were waitlisted.

BOA....Yes I did write about the STEM Program...We use the same name for the threads....One son is 16yo waiting on the STEM program, the other is a daughter waiting on USNA Class of 2016....So we are a busy family! But thanks for noticing...

Oh dear..you guys ARE busy! The stress of one child going through this process is more than I can handle. Good luck to both of them!

Son denied for summer STEM program. Now we still wait for the USNA class of 2016 appointment for our daughter...Lots of emotions in this house

Waitlist

No, We have not heard anything our way either. Does anyone know how many actually accepted their appointments? That will tell us if any will be chosen off the waitlist.

Has anyone on the wait list heard anything?
I was waitlisted in April. This past weekend, I received a phone call from my BGO saying that the class is being finalized and I was not selected off of the wait list. No BFE for me this year. I'll be reapplying for 2017.

Any News

My DS has yet to hear anything as well. Wondering where admissions is at in the process. Does anyone know if the class has been decided? Will any be chosen off the waitlist? We are running full steam ahead for 2nd choice at this time, but DS is still wishing for a miracle. Thanks to all of you for the great info and support. He has decided that he will reapply next year.
Congrats to all appointees, Good Luck to you and success to you in your futures.

It is my impression they are clearing the list as quickly as they can... as before, cannot see a pattern in how they are selecting from the WL, but word should be coming out soon.

Over for now

It is my impression they are clearing the list as quickly as they can... as before, cannot see a pattern in how they are selecting from the WL, but word should be coming out soon.

My DS received the TWE in the mail today. It stated that more accepted their appointments than antiicipated so he was not chosen off the waitlist. The letter gave him a list of classes to take at college and to reapply next year.

The wait is over now, that sure is a load off our shoulders. He will reapply next year.
