AFROTC Scholarship - Issue with Intended "Non-Tech" Major

I have a couple questions for anyone familiar with the AFROTC scholarship process and regulations.
I received an AFROTC 4-year Type 7 scholarship a while ago, and I converted it to a 3-year Type 2 scholarship in order to go to an out-of-state college. The scholarship specified that it was for "Any Major". With this scholarship, I had planned to study Aeronautical Science (considered a non-technical major) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
However, I recently received an email from a Lt. Mary Hoyer, stating that the scholarship guidelines have changed and now the "non-tech" and "any major" scholarship recipients will be required to pursue technical majors only.
Does this mean that, with no exceptions, I will have to chose a technical major in order to keep my scholarship?
Has anyone else had an issue with this new requirement?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I would guess "yes" to your queston. You would have to pursue a technical major to keep your scholarship, but I would verify this with Maxwell.

Yes, I actually spoke with him about that initially. When I first received the scholarship, it was for a "technical" major only, and he stated that due to my high rank on the board, he would allow it to be changed per my request to an "any major" scholarship. This exception was confirmed, but then a week or so later I was notified of the email from Lt. Hoyer. I'm not sure if the exception still stands and I haven't been able to get in touch with him lately. I just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this problem or had any advice.

Have you contacted your det.? The AF occasionally allows a tech to convert to a non-tech, it has to go up through the chain. I would see if the CC can support you in this change.

The problem is if I am understanding you correctly is you have yet to contract since you changed it to a 3 yr., and will not contract for another yr. It may be that AFROTC has determined for FY 13-14; the yr you would contract, the any major is now eliminated. Hence, why Lt. Hoyer came back later on to state you can't go non-tech since she realized you are not activating the scholarship for 12-13 yr.

I wouldn't give up hope because the det may go to bat for you, but I would be prepared that they may say go tech or lose the scholarship.

I would also talk to the CC about if you opt to go non-tech and lose the scholarship(revoked) will that mean you are ineligible for an IS scholarship? Can you get a det. scholarship?

Remember the scholarship does not guarantee SFT/EA, your cgpa will be a big portion of that WCS for selection. If you take the scholarship in a major you don't like it can impact your grades, and come the end of C200 yr., you can be dis-enrolled. In essence, you would lose the scholarship in that scenario too.

Yes, I have contacted the det. but have not actually been able to speak with anyone recently or since I received the email from Lt. Hoyer.
If the scholarship does not end up covering a non-tech major, I will have a big decision to make.
Thanks for all your help!

True, but perhaps not until next year, unless the lack of scholarship would affect which school you attend. You might be able to throw yourself on the mercy of the court and win this one since you accepted under one set of conditions. Of course, this IS "city hall". Good luck, Hope this works out for you.
