I must comment on the excellent job done by the Norwich staff and faculty on the Commissioning and Commencement exercises this past weekend. I also wish to thank all they have done for my son over the past years at Norwich. I really recommend this school for anyone looking for a forward looking education. My son has had a hectic few weeks at Norwich between a FTX, tests, papers, arrangements for family to come to the university, rehearsals for graduation and prepping for the Army. He was pretty worn out. He really enjoyed the ceremonies with all his friends. He packed his car and left the campus by himself last night. He was one of the last to leave. Right before he pulled out from the campus exit he pulled to the side of the road. It hit him he was not going to return to the school in the fall. It finally hit him he was going to miss his friends, cadre, teachers and the school. The speakers at all of the ceremonies always referenced the future. It was a moment to look back. He was sad. He was grateful. Thank you Norwich University for all the great memories. He will make you proud.

I really recommend this school for anyone considereing it. Enjoy your time there.

Nice post:smile:. Congrats to your son :thumb:. I can't wait to be a rook this year and start my Norwich journey.

Congratulations to NorwichDad's son and to all of the Norwich 2012 grads and good luck on your future endeavors:thumb:

Be prepared - Now you will start to get notes from the Alumni association reminding you of all of those old school ties and looking for a "small"contribution!

Congrats to you RR. Best wishes on your graduation next month from high school. Enjoy your time as a Rook. Be good natured and make friends. You are kind of locked down as a Rook. Use that time to study and get good grades. Go to the gym and work out. Most importantly have fun. Join a club or sports. It is a great time in your life.

Funny that letter came yesterday.

Congratulations Norwich Dad and to your 2LT son! Thanks to him for being a great role model to the underclassmen and for his service. Looking forward to hearing about his career. My DS just finished up his rook year and is looking forward to the fall with great enthusiasm. Norwich Forever!

Thanks my friend, best wishes to your son. I said hello to him at the graduation where he had his assignment. He looked great in his ACUs. He is a real nice kid.

Congratulations to the new 2LT.

Enjoy the short time he is at home. Tell your son to start drinking lots of water to prepare for that great Georgia weather. Best of luck to him in Infantry and Ranger School.

thank you for your advice NorwichDad

NorwichDad and Philmont, if you don't mind me asking, did either of your kids use the linen service or the dry cleaning service?

When does he gotta report to Ft Benning? summer there is about as uncomfortable as it gets ! If he's reporting for the class that starts in a couple of weeks- at least he'll be in Ranger school in reasonably tolerable weather- neither dead of summer or freezing as a winter Ranger.
Congratulations again and good luck! !:thumb:

Congratulations, NorwichDad, to your son on his achievements as a cadet. Not much chance to decompress before BOLC but it's probably preferable to working in a sandwich shop for seven or eight months.

I hope you will continue to report when the opportunity arises on his experiences at BOLC and Ranger School (not much free time for him in either one it seems). Like many others, I have enjoyed and benefited from your posts.

Hi Bruno,
He leaves tomorrow. Two day drive from here. He is packing now. It is going to be hot. Big difference from Vermont. As Jecleppe said lots of water. My son did mention that Ranger school in fall will be optimum weather. Although he said it is still no easy task. He's a good kid and a PT beast.

Thanks

EDelahanty I have always loved your posts. They have lifted me up many times. I will post up his progress. I will soon post up a couple of IBLOC and Ranger school blogs links. These were written last year and the year before by some new Lts. My son says they were incredible. My son sent the story of RP our old neighbor to the Star Ledger but no response. On monday he dressed up in his Lt uniform and we went to see RP. RP stood and saluted my son. It was awesome.

Really going to miss this kid.

Good question. My son did his own laundry. I think the service does a great job though. There are some great videos on Youtube. See if you can find the one of the Dog River Run this year or last.

Georgia weather

In high 80's to low 90's right now in GA. Supposed to be an exceptionally hot summer, lots of days at 105+ but will cool back off to the low 80's to high 70's around the end of Oct. to the beginning of Nov. Tell the new 2nd LT that it will only take a couple months to get used to the heat then just the mention of a 75 degree day will give him thoughts of snowmen in Vermont.

No, my son did not use either of the laundry services. I know several parents that initially bought the service and then wanted to cancel it because their rook did not use it. The rooks have time to do their laundry. I am sending you a PM.

I bet both your DS and RP were very proud when that salute was delivered. I'm starting to tear up thinking about it. Congrats to your DS.

I was at the graduation ceremony and thought it was terrific. Congrats to your son, NorwichDad!!

Thanks for your posts.

Thanks to all for your Norwich related posts. Norwich Dad - your writing is eloquent and your thoughts about your son are very touching! We are preparing to see our son off in August to begin his Rookdom and it is hitting me hard - high school graduation is next week and he is our oldest child. So many emotions! But hearing what other parents have to say about the positive experiences about Norwich is at least one comfort.
