Has anyone who was Wait Listed Class of 2016 heard from the Academy...Still hopeful

Still waiting

My son is still waiting. Wait listed in april and have not heard anything. Has anyone else heard since being wait listed?

My DS has been waitlisted since April also and we got the word by a TWE yesterday that the class is full and that he would not be getting an appointment. But plan B is in full swing so all is good. We know that Gods timing is perfect and that this is for a reason.

Don't get too impatient; they wiped out all of this area's WL's in one weekend, and none of them got an offer. At least you're still in the running, but the opportunities appear to be thinning quickly.

Patiently waiting?

We realize he's lucky to still be in play. We just wish we understood the process of selection from the wait list. Does anyone have insight on the process.

Fewer less spots than anticipated

According to a presentation given at our High School yesterday the class of 2016 has 975 slots as opposed to the predicted 1120:confused:

I'd be happy to be added to that number!! Still hopeful, but, Plan B in affect.
Good Luck to everyone still waiting.

Still waiting?....

I don't know about those numbers. The waitlist letter stated the class size would include 1190 students. The good news is, another mail delivery and no letter.

Still waiting in Texas. The door to USNA is not opened or closed...but just barely open. As soon as DD was notified of her wait list status she moved full steam ahead with Plan B. Texas A&M with her cousin and reapply. As parents we are very grateful and proud that DD has no regrets and has a positive attitude. She worked very hard the last several years and is confident that she did everything that she could do and that she did it well. She understands that every year lots of incredible candidates do not get in.

For all you wait listed candidates out there I wanted to share this and I hope it is encouraging to you. In December the North Texas Alumni Assoc. held a "Blue Chip" Dinner. Alumni, midshipmen and candidates were invited. USNA Commandant Capt. Clark and Clint Bruce (alum, NFL, retired Seal) were the main speakers. 4 midshipmen also spoke at the dinner. Commandant Capt. Clark, and 3 of the 4 midshipmen shared how they did not get in the first time. Clint Bruce attended NAPS. They shared encouraging USNA testimonies about working hard to reach your dreams, and being thankful for the support of their families. DD also remembers Clint Bruce speaking to the candidates about knowing "your why". She knows her "why". :thumb:

Best wishes to all of you. You are all incredible. Thank you so much for wanting to serve our country.

Saw your note and was compelled to post a little something. Our DS was WL last year and we anxiously waited and waited until about this same time last year. Then one day, we received a call from USNA that the Dean of Admissions would be in our area and wanted to stop by for a visit... Well, you can imagine the feelings we had at the time.... He indeed did stopped by for the visit but delivered the news we had dreaded... but he went on to explain that as a WL candidate, our DS was certainly qualified and even selected to attend USNA but unfortunately there just wasn't a spot for him in the class. He went on to encourage DS to begin plan B (an NROTC scholarship to UWasington) but if his dream was still to attend USNA, to reapply.

Well, fast forward to March 1 of this year... After reapplying our DS received that Appointment he had dreamed of for so many years... Guess what... his love for the Battalion at UW and the school caused him great conflict and eventually after serious and thoughtful consideration, he has turned down his Appointment so someone could realize their dream.

My point for this post is this... an Appointment may be a year away for your DS... Encourage him to reapply if it really is his dream to attend USNA. But also be prepared for those dreams to change a bit over the coming year... and if so, no worries. He's obviously a highly qualified candidate that will excel on whatever path he chooses... BUT, do not be discouraged!!! And let is be a life lesson.

All the best to you!
John (CandidateinSD)

Seriously, in the recent past - and all the way back to the 60's - about 30 per cent of the incoming classes were composed of midshipmen who had tried more than one time or had been out of high school for a year. Now, things change, but this is the history. Consider that NAPS has had a capacity of about 300 prospects and the Foundation has been awarding about 50 scholarships of late. That doesn't take into account the prospects who are in college. My plebe year room, the four of us all had at least one year out of high school before earning our appointments (one of us had THREE years in AROTC before seeing the light!).

Trying not to be too impatient but it's not easy. When you say "they wiped out all of this areas WL's " Which area are you talking about?

On DS I-day there was a kid who was wait listed two times --he showed up at USNA and stood outside Alumni in case someone didn't show so he would be there and try to take the spot. It was so wonderful and disappointing to see the man come out of alumni and say ---All appointee are present and accounted for. Poor kid no clue if he got in last year. If this is your dream don't stop trying keep the faith!

He got the call

Unbelievable. Our son got the call yesterday afternoon. He has been wait listed since April. We are all very excited and there is so much to do with only 1 day to prepare. Anchors aweigh.

WOW Laker1, that is awesome news... congrats to your DS and entire family!

Congratulations Laker1 !!!!! My DD is still waiting. One way or the other we at least know that the wait shall be over soon. We are very excited for you and wish you well.
