Hello, I'm currently a sophomore in high school and I need information on what to do for West Point. Applications will be coming up very soon and I need to know if I am missing anything on my application.

-3.851 GPA (unweighted of 4.0) hoping to get over 3.9 by end of junior year
-Model UN co-president
-predetermined for Boys State next year
-on my way for 4 year varsity swimming
-science olympiad officer
-key club officer
-ACT:28 (will get higher)
-PSAT:192 (taking again next year)

-also, when does the application process officially end? are the final grades and extracurriculars that go into the app finalized by the end of one's junior year? and when are the interviews for the nomination?

if anyone is willing to answer my questions i would be very thankful

Just to understand, are you going to be a junior this next school year?

What's your class rank? That's 30% of your Whole Candidate Score (WCS). USMA does not use GPA to calculate your WCS because it varies from school to school so they use class rank to see how you compare to your classmates (which is more interesting than your absolute GPA).

Do you have any varsity letters? Any chances you can become a captain?

Also, try to get high leadership positions in your ECs.

PSAT may be used to apply for SLS (week-long seminar for competitive candidates in the end of their junior year, application for SLS starts on January of your Junior year), but only ACT and SAT are used in the actual application.

Application technically ends on February 28th of your senior year, if I'm not mistaken, so everything that you do up to then is useful. You must have your 7th semester transcript at WP by the date. HOWEVER, if you have bad grades on your last semester, you may have your appointment revoked. (Not sure what exactly is a "bad grade", but do NOT slack off at the end of your senior year.) You must have your 8th semester of your senior year transcript sent to USMA as well.

Application for nominations normally end mid-7th semester, but that varies by MOC. If they conduct interview, they are normally held between mid- and end of the 7th semester. That also varies by MOC.

Hope I've answered some things. Any other questions, feel free to ask.

And work out!

WCS: 30% class rank, 30% standardized test scores, 10% leadership positions in sports, 10% leadership outside sports, 10% CFA. Essays and other subjective matters also weight on your WCS. Hope I'm not leaving anything out.

BillSL, I believe that the leadership areas in sports and outside sports count for 15% each not 10%. That would make you total add to 100%.

Ha! I knew I shouldn't have rushed through my post.

I apologize to the OP, and thanks for the correction, Eagle.

The WCS's weights are as follows:

30% SAT/ACT
30% Class Rank
10% Sports leadership
10% Non-sports leadership
10% CFA
10% SOEs (Teacher Recommendations)

I would also avoid using "imma" in any written correspondence with an Academy representative.

Haha! I was just about to say the same thing!

Good grammar is something that EVERYONE should practice, not just officers/USMA appointees.
