DS at SLS. Brief phone call last night (seriously 30 seconds) .You could tell he was in a hurry so I just let him talk and didn't ask any questions. (note to self google squad vs platoon-I have no idea what those are...are we giving away that we are not a military family??)

He did say "I love it here and I cant imagine any place better....anywhere...ever." (we will see when he goes in a few weeks to USNA....)

He also said "his sergeant is a "Cool-cat" That's his expression for nice guy (I know what that means...).

OK -my question: later in the wk they have something called "Individual counselling" I saw it on his paperwork today that i had a copy of. I remember someone posted on this forum asking what that means but I dont recall the answer and I did a search and couldn't find it. Can anyone say what that is?

I believe that the counseling is his interview and perhaps an opportunity find out what he can do to improve his chances for admission. Glad to hear he's having fun! We're not a military family and with a new "Firstie" I'm still playing catch up on the lingo. My daughter will be attending SLS next week. She's pretty excited to be going too.

You got a PHONE CALL??!! I'm SO jealous! I got a brief text.... But he did said "I'm so excited!". And that's just the first day! :thumb:

Got the call! Brief... but he's loving it!!

Reaction to SLS Attendance

Funny thing...

DS1 went to SLS. Pretty ambivalent about attending. First words out of his mouth when I picked him up from the airport was, "No way am I going there". I was stunned!!!

DS1 is now a rising Yuk and absolutely loves being there (challenges, successes, etc). In fact, he speaks so highly about it that all my other sons aspire to attend.

DS2 is there at SLS this week. He was so excited when he left and really wants to attend a service academy/commission into the Army; so much so that his "Plan B" is the Citadel. It will be interesting to hear his response upon his return.

Thanks for sharing about your SLS attendee phone calls/texts. It just brings back all the excitement/memories/stress  of the process of the next 8 months!

That brought back some memoirs, vista. DS would call with a short briefing on what was going on that day. Funny that is how most of his calls go now almost three years later. A good book for mom's that do not have prior miliatary experience is 1000 and one reasons I love miliatary life, it has a whole chapter on the alphabet soup language your son will be using.
