hello Navy bloggers,

I'm intruding on your page from USMMA for a moment to say that the movie battleship was pretty B.A. and got me pumped to report for indoctrination for me... if any of you guys or gals saw it im sure you know what im talking bout!!

I wish my Navy career was anything at all like any Navy movie. I'm thinking about writing a screenplay about my life in the engine room of a submarine called "The day the bell changed." It will feature the day that for the first time in weeks on a deployment that the engine order telegraph goes from Ahead 2/3 to Ahead Full and something finally happens on the midwatch.

Exactly as described by my friend who was on an attack sub for 3 years. Sounds like he could co-author that script!

Ah, but as the parent of a soon-to-be-"nub," I LIKE the idea of many midwatches where "nothing happens," particularly in the engine room!

I was very fortunate to work closely with the film crew, as well as meet the movie Director. A lot of work went into this from the Navy side (to say it was a logistical nightmare is just the tip of the iceberg). I also must say that Collateral Duty Public Affairs Officer does have some benefits! :thumb:

I was glad to see a few shots from my ship spread throughout the movie. Did anyone see midshipmen in the movie (early on)? They were wearing the "N" ball caps.

YES.

Also, noticed at least one Naval Academy mug and a couple class rings (though I guess those are more of a given in movies) in there.
