DS 2015 is sailing and going to be a Waterfront Trainer so coming home during the brief summer appears to be a no-go. Looking at the first Regimental Calendar available I see classes resume after Labor Day on Wednesday September 5th. Soooooo, who thinks that means Tuesday can be a travel day? I am looking at bringing him home Friday night and him returning Tuesday late afternoon. Now I know better than to rush to purchase tickets but I want to start shopping. Thoughts or experience requested. Could that be the Beat Coast Guard game ( can't really call it anything else) that weekend? Would that effect Third Class Liberty? What other timing issues do I need to be planning for? I do understand Liberty can be revoked at any time and for any reason but trying to educate myself as to what I can look out for. Thanks!
About that roller coaster ride you all told me about, OMG perfect description! I have laughed, cried, burst from pride, met wonderful new friends, learned all about a new sport, literally wanted to throw up once, found myself on Hurricaine watch sitting here in the middle of the country, learned what a sailing harness is and why a bowman needs one. A quick look at a few internet pictures made me rush to transfrer funds for that ( even though equipment is available to use) if he wants a certain kind, fine with me! I bought "foulies" for Xmas. I had never heard of those before. I went "all battle stations" once when DS had a brief brain tumor ( must have been) and wondered if he had in fact made the right decision to attend KP. Much of the advice I recieved on that matter was from SAF :thumb: glad that is over. He still doesnt realize ( or maybe he does) all the people that suddenly popped up to see how he was doing was my doing. But i wouodnt change a thing. Although ds said when discussing one of the people i asked to check in in him, " mom, don't do that again" uh yeah okay, sure, fine, no problem ( looking for little smiley guy with fingers crossed) How many more of those emotional hurricanes should I look out for? One or two more over the next three years?
Well I am ready! Now don't everybody bail over here just because of the FB pages. This forum has a much broader base to draw experience from and darn it I need you all! :thumb:
Have a great summer. The whole weekend to three weeks of it we may get! my other incoming college sophomore has been home since May 5!

Coast Guard weekend, is the next weekend, Sept 7-9th. Game is in New London this year.

Lynpar - My only advice is to be flexible. Don't count on a weekend off. DS will be 1st class 2012-2013, and there is no summer for him. He'll be doing a Navy internship right after exams and he figures he'll get roped into what's left of Indoc when he returns. No summer the last two years, either. I'm hoping for Labor Day weekend, but not counting on it. And we're only a 2-hour train ride away....

And I completely understand about the roller coaster ride. After 4th class year it gets easier - but yet harder in some respects. Easier in that they know the routine. Harder in that you're dealing with Sea Year. Nothing like a 6:30 a.m. call from Saudi Arabia.

I have to laugh...I also heard, "Mom, don't ever do that again!" when I had medical check up on my DS. He rang the bell and is graduating next week! We changed many-a-tickets!

My turn to laugh DS will graduate next week and absolutely has extreme loathing for medical department, and I suspect from what I've seen fair cause for same.

Lynpar - not sure if and when Parent's/Acceptance weekend is this coming year but that's something to watch out for in addition to Labor day in early September, that affects liberty.
