Many of us sent photos, over the past couple of years, printed off of WebGuy (my daughter is a rising C1C and will be working first Beast doing those 5:00 a.m., under the lights calisthenics). Our family sent photos during Beast, but we waited until they were at Jack's Valley -- we knew it was against the rules but did it anyway -- her cadre -- three years ago -- mostly thought they were funny and didn't punish her. It was not the end of the world, but that was her cadre at that time. My daughter tells me that last summer (2 years after her Basic) no cadre in her group confiscated letters or photos -- but it is always cadre, year dependent. Should you send lots of photos: probably not. Can you send a couple in your letters: maybe/probably. Will your Basic get extra push ups, etc.: who knows -- maybe. Depends on the cadre, the squadron, how well the group is doing at the time -- flights that are doing better (meeting expectations) will maybe get more leeway. All things that you can't control. No matter what -- if your Basic is trying hard, it's probably not the end of the world. If your Basic is struggling or not trying --something you may not or probably won't know -- it may draw more negative attention. You can't know and your almost Basic can't predict at this point. If they try hard -- they will probably survive and a couple of photos, that give them an emotional boost, won't matter to their overall performance/career one way or the other.
