Hi everyone! My name is Jacqueline Parker and am a prospective cadet of one of the highly regarded service academies. :) I will be a junior this Fall and am doing everything I can to make sure that I am well qualified for an appointment. I will be applying for USMA, USAFA, USNA, USCGA, USMMA, AFROTC, NROTC, and Army ROTC. My dream is to become a United States Soldier and to attend any of the academies, preferably, the Air Force Academy! :) :thumb: God Bless.

new too!

Hello I'm new too, just dropping in to say hello!

Hello, my name is Sandy and my son will be in the USAFA starting next Thursday, we are looking forward to our trip to Colorado on Wednesday to see him off on his adventure with the Air Force Academy. Looking forward to all the opportunities this experience will bring him and us as we follow and support his career in the Air Force. I am thankful for this forum because it is sure to keep us informed of things to watch out for and provide helpful tips for us new parents! Thanks to all for your assistance in advance. Sincerely, Sandy and Lou.

West Point Prep School

I'm curious how you feel about the prep school? I've been told by West Point at more than one official function that it's for 3 groups of people or 3 situations:

1) People already in the military.
2) Diversity (Blacks, Hispanics)
3) Athletes who are at the "risk level" academically (i.e. SATs, ACTs) (for example 75% of the mens basketball team go to the prep school for this reason, according to the coaching staff)

#1 makes sense to me. #2 & #3 seem reverse discriminatory. If you dont have a 1283 on the SAT or a 28 on the ACT (avg scores for incoming class) then its understandable that you might not get in.

There are 246 positions @ USMAPS and it seems to me that even West Point is not "on the level" in most cases, as it relates to the prep school.

There is much more to what makes a good U.S. Army Officer than standardized test scores. That's why we have people with 36/2400 scores who do NOT get admitted whilst others do get an appointment. The USMA has goals to create the BEST officer corp - and the BEST officer corps might NOT simply getting whoever mastered the SAT/ACT... Diversity might work better. That's why we have athletes. That's why we have minorities. That's why we strive for an excellent, WELL-ROUNDED corps of cadets. That's why the service academies use nominations to spread out the class geographically. We want diversity so we bring well-rounded candidates and graduate well-rounded officers.

I don't understand what you mean -- mind rephrasing that statement?

Hi Sandy,

Welcome to the forums and I'm also new here. Our son will be starting at the USNA June 27th and we're so excited for him. I must say, I'm a bit nervous for him too, but I know he'll do a great job and make us all proud. I was so happy to find this forum as I've already found such great information to make his I-day run smoother. Good luck to your son!

When my dd interviewed with our moc she was told her nom could only be used for 1 academy. Your state may be less competitive but in FL you didn't have the option to apply to more than one school.

Hi Jacqueline,

I'm also new to this forum. I am also going to be a junior this fall. I am also doing everything to get an acceptance letter to the USAFA. I am going to apply to the USNA too. If I make it to USAFA or USNA Ill look around for a Jacqueline Parker. My name is Paolo Garcia. You should join our class group:)
