Good morning. I am the parent of an upcoming High School senior who wants to attend a military academy. He has not decided which one is primary, but definitely wants to attend one. He attended 3 Summer Seminars last month (USAFA, USMA, USNA).

Personally, I am career Air Force and a Red Hot '94 USAFA Grad. Anyone who could explain Vice Presidential Noms to me would be much appreciated. Can he apply to VP Nom for all Academies because I am a graduate? Our ALO told us the Nom was automatic but because they can only have so many VP Acceptances it may not work. ?!?!?! Don't understand that statement.

Thanks, and I look forward to the painful and stressful application process for my son. Glad I have this forum to help us make it through, I have heard great things about it from friends.

This sounds like a Presidential nomination. Unlimited nominations but only about 100 appointments available to these nom's.

Hi "Recent Grad!"

I think your son's ALO meant Presidential nomination. This is automatic for sons/daughters of career military members. There's a criteria as to what constitutes "career" but suffice it to say if you're still on AD, he qualifies.

The process is easy and well explained on the USAFA admissions website: http://academyadmissions.com/#Page/Preparation

Just search for Presidential Nomination. They show the form letter, information required, etc. If you follow it and submit it to all three (USAFA/USMA/USNA) it'll be fine.

The information re: 100 appointments, separate category etc., is correct! (thanks Packer!)
