We had heard there is a day in July where the Basic Cadets may be allowed to make a phone call home. Does anyone know what date that might be? We want to make sure we have our phones close at all times on that date. Also, if this is true does anyone know if the BC's will be using their personal cell phones or a borrowed phone? Thanks!

I think it will be July 14th but not positive.
I do know that 2 years ago my ds didn't have his cell phone with him (we left it with sponsor) and they had lots of phones set up for the basics to use. He talked to us for over 2 hours with no problem.

Expect the phone call on Sunday, July 15. That is Doolie Day Out, when the basics spend the day with their sponsors.

I am not sure of the date for DDO, but I wanted to add a comment about whose phone they will be using. The answer is that no one knows. We have learned over the last 6 years to always answer a call from any number, any area code.

Once during BCT we got a 30 second phone call from our son from a number we didn't know. One of the cadre in Jack's Valley let our son use the cadre's cell phone to call home as a reward for supporting classmates on the obstacle course. We've also gotten many other calls from our son from numbers we didn't know. Sometimes someone else has better reception wherever they are at that time. CST and Ops were two times that I can remember. Once he called from a different number right after he washed his cell phone after he left it in his flight suit.

My advice is to not worry about what phone they might be using. Just always answer the phone.

Thanks and this is all good info to have. We have learned that we will make sure we always have our phones with us and we will answer it whenever it rings. Thanks again for all of the helpful responses.

Doolie Day Out is Saturday the 14th to fall in line with the transition day for the rest of the cadet wing, not Sunday the 15th. You never know when someone might hand them a phone some other day though so always be ready.

I am a sponsor this year and was told by USAFA that Dooley day out was 7/15.

I stand corrected. Per the official AF BCT page, it says that Doolie Day out is from 0900-1830 on 15 Jul. I am not sure the logic in that because I know our Doolie Day in was on transition day to facilitate cadre moving in and out without us knowing or seeing it, but that is what the website says.

It is to give the new Cadre a chance to organize themselves and get a little feedback from 1st BCT Cadre.

They go to the rodeo on Saturday, so that should have them gone for much of the transition period.

You are right, that page lists ddo as ending at 18:30 but the word from dd's coach is that it is ending at 17:00. I hear the coaches are picking up their teams at 8:00 and the cadets will get their phones then. So if the rodeo is saturday the 14th, when is field day? Friday morning or saturday morning? I sure hope they are still doing field day.
