ROTC - Travel to Ft. Benning

Cadet Delahanty's Airborne original itinerary had him flying to Atlanta and then flying to Columbus. Now it's been changed to catching a shuttle from Atlanta to Ft. Benning. I'm guessing the travel time will be the same or less. The rationale is that cadets don't fly to Ft. Benning/Columbus.

Anyone have experience with the shuttle from Atlanta to Ft. Benning.

Cadet Delehanty is a world traveler. I think it is about 1.5 to 2 hours to Benning.

Your grocery bills must be a lot less this summer!
 
How does the Norwich University online application work?

I applied 3 days ago and I dont know what to do. Will I get my get my anwser from there?
I don't know. Someone please help!
 
Mr. Jamison - first of all you need to take a deep breath. Then you need to practice a little forum etiquette, and not tag unrelated posts on to other people's existing threads. Also, continuously spamming multiple forums with the same questions is generally considered bad form. If you have a legitimate, unanswered question, start a new thread, and the folks on this forum will go out of their way to help you out.

A quick search of the Norwich website reveals they review applications on a rolling basis, and will look at your's once they have received all of your materials.
I would expect it to take a few weeks, at a minimum. If only 3 days has passed, it is far too early to expect a response.

Like I said, take a few deep breaths, and use your restless energy to go do some PT.

Found the answer to my question about the same time Cadet Delahanty troubled himself to peruse his orders. He is to call up Groome Transportation, which runs buses every half hour during the day between Atlanta Airport and Ft. Benning (a 1 hr 45 min trip). The cost is $39 each way. Compared to the prospect of waiting around for a short hop plane to Columbus and then getting a cab or bus, this is almost astonishing in its efficiency and cost effectiveness. (Before he forbade Mrs. Delahanty and me to show up to watch his jumps, I was planning to rent a car at Atlanta airport and drive myself. Come to think of it, I still might do it.)

Plus as I have told Cadet Delahanty, the Groome shuttle is quite similar to the famous New York City based Hampton jitney. Comely Swedish or Bulgarian exchange students serve on-board champagne cocktails and hand out Wall Street Journals and scented hot towels. Apparently this is the way they awaken you at 3:45 a.m. at Airborne School.

Grocery bills were indeed lower while Cadet Delahanty was away. This has been offset however by his determination to make up for missed barbecue.

Don't forget to remind him to partake in the port wine and cuban cigars available in the Jump Building. Just don't jump with the cigar in your mouth. Parachutes don't mix well with lit cigars.

If he needs help at Atalnta Hartsfield tell him to go see the USO there. Very helpful people.

The chocolate mints they put on their pillows every night when they turn down their beds is quite nica as well.

You should go watch his final jumps, and be there to pin his jump wings (Blood Wings) My older son told us there awere a lot of family members there to watch the final jumps when he went. Being 3,000 miles away made it tough for us to go, we got to see the pictures, unfortunatly none were of him. Son told us the place was crawling with wives, husbands, parents, grand parents, and a whole lot of little rug rats.
 
Glad to hear Cadet D. will not have to depend on Ft. Benning to come and pick him up! DS is there currently at BCT, flew into Atlanta approx. 2:30pm -- base didn't show up to get him until 10:30pm, unfortunately with no way to contact anyone he just sat in the assigned spot(slept some I'm sure:wink:) and waited.

At BCT they have have their own concierge who takes care of them for the entirety of the stay:thumb:
Affectionately they refer to him as Drill Sargent:shake:

The Benning website is great, including links to discounted hotels if you and the family make it for his final jumps. We're heading down 8/20 for DS's graduation on the 23rd(all things going according to schedule with no illness/injuries so far...)
