Powerful new presence on the high seas

I wouldn't call them "Powerful". In our sleep, we could sink them without trying. They might be a threat against pirates, but not our navy or air force. They don't even own 1 aircraft carrier. They are not a threat. CAVEAT: If we allow POLITICIANS to be involved during a threat, then they could be. The politicians won't allow us strike back.

I agree with CC, the only power they are holding is political. They know that and we know that.

OBTW, the globalfirepower link made me immediately think of Hussein to prove CC's point. Iraq was number 5 when he invaded Kuwait, and that lasted how many days? This country is number 12, we already have the Navy in their backyard, with enough resources to obliterate their everything.

They have @1030 aircrafts, we have over 18K. Aircraft their are rusting on their runways.

How many aircraft carriers do they have? 0! We have 11.

How many destroyers do they have? 3! We have 59.

Honestly, by saying that there is a powerful new presence is like saying University of Timbucktoo is a college that MIT should watch out for currently. I know conceit can be the achille's heel, but again in this case, the conceit will be coming from Iran.

JMPO, but Iran is like the child screaming look at me. What does frighten me is every parent knows a child in throws of a temper tantrum can become dangerous to anyone around them. Iran knows this, but like the child, they do it to gain leverage. The problem here is we have multiple spoiled brats (Iran, Russia and Venezuela) ganging up together trying to see where is the line before they are sent to time out, and at the same time, we need to keep 1 more child in check (Israel) to stop it from getting to a full blown melt down.

It was in jest:thumb: As a ridiculous presentment of unfounded seapower. They do this all the time and get international news and recognition. No parts, no supply and no blue water capability. First engagement would last about two minutes and Iran Naval presence would be gone. Just like their many threats to the Straits. Sail and Deploy and die very quickly and swim with Osama. Sweden ranks higher and is probably a better Naval force. Ireland has a better trained and equiped Navy! It ain't going to be another Jutland or Coral Sea.

Beat me to the punch, raimius!

The GAU-8/A Avenger and a highly motivated / highly deadly person at the controls of an A-10 firing it! The REAL new powerful presence on the high seas! :thumb:

(If they have a tanker to get them there, and the boat isn't moving faster than they are... :shake:)

I like this....a lot. :)

Well, some of us like flying backwards.

Remind me someday to tell you "youngsters" about the A-10 fly-by at USAFA @1981-1982....

Grounded 4 pilots BUT...it was pretty amazing!

I love A-10s. I built a model once. All I used were a few nails, a 2x4, and two beer cans. It was very realistic.

Damn; where was Al Gore when you needed him??? If he'd of had the internet invented by then, it would be all over Youtube. Oh well; you can tell me over a beer next month. (Then again; i definitely don't fit into the "YOUNGSTERS" category). Oh well; we're still drinking beer.

By the way. You do remember what the difference between a "Fairy-Tale" and a "War-Story" is, right?

Fairy-Tale:..... Once upon a time.........

War-Story:.... This ain't no sh**

LOL!!!
P.S. Except for the F-15; I really love the A-10.

A tease...

The four pilots showed up that night for dinner with cadet wing; they sat on the "staff tower." When they were introduced, the standing ovation was MANY minutes long!

We were told the next day that they'd been grounded, were flying home on a commercial flight, and that things were NOT good. This from my AOC (F-4 pilot).

The last time the Iranian Navy got froggy with my shipmates, the number of permanent undersea naval installations held by the Iranian Navy suddenly saw a sharp uptick.

Bring it, you bastards. Been wanting to crush your asses since 1979...
