Earlier in the year I had considered West Point and submitted the preliminary candidate questionnaire. However, I always viewed it secondary to the Naval Academy. After attending the Naval Academy Summer Seminar and watching my brother's induction there in the Class of 2016, I realized that the Naval Academy is really where I want to be. Thus, I have explored other backup options, including NROTC, and am no longer as interested in West Point (I mean absolutely no disrespect - it's a tremendous school/opportunity - I've just realized it's not for me). I figured it would be in the best interest to simply withdraw my application and allow the admissions team to better focus their efforts on other applicants. My question to the dedicated members of this forum is how to best withdraw my application from West Point. I haven't really been able to find much information about it, and I'm not entirely sure of the best process to withdraw. Is there an online portal option, email, etc.? Many thanks in advance for all your help.

Just send a message to your West Point Regional Commander stating that you are withdrawing.

However, you might consider keeping your USMA application open. I don't think it's much more additional work for you to complete it, since you'll be going through the same steps for USNA. You could use it as one of our backup plans if perhaps nothing else comes through but USMA decides they like you. Just a thought. Hope all your dreams come true!

Academy is important, but not as much as the service. I would advise that you choose based on the service you wish to enter as the Academies are, to a degree, microcosms of their services.
Your choice sounds entirely based on the Academy (and if it is more than that forgive me). Just make sure that you consider what service you want to be in. The Army is different from the Navy is different from the Air Force. It is similar with their respective academies. Better or worse really only applies in terms of sports, and those only last while at the Academies.
Being at an Academy ultimately means being in, and preparing to lead within, a larger organization. It's better to choose because you, at the very least, don't mind being in the organization you go to.
