Hi guys,

So I just find out that DodMerb qualified me medically. It is a great feeling to know that this hurdle is out of the way. I just have a quick question about my medical records. My question is will a service academy request all of your official medical records once you get accepted, since DoDMERB never did?

If you are fortunate enough to receive an appointment, you will be given a medical checklist to perform. E.g. immunizations. I believe they ask for medical records, but I can't quite remember. My son was a military brat, so his medical records were already in the military system. But here's the MAIN KEY POINT: You are NOT the first person to apply and/or get an appointment. They've been doing this for decades and centuries. Whether they need medical records or not...... you will DEFINITELY KNOW ABOUT IT when the time is right. In other words..... Don't worry about it.

cadet2017, congrats on DoDMERB! Can I ask how long you waited before being notified that you passed? What SA or SA's are you applying to? How were you notified, on your portal? Thanks.

Thank you Roadking!! I had may final exam on July 26th and I got my qualified status yesterday, so it was not to bad of a wait. I'm applying for both the Air Force Academy and West Point. Air Force was the one that sent for the exam to be done. I have a feeling that the Air Force Acadmey is going to end up paying for a lot of the tests to be done this year, since they only require you to complete 3 forms before they send your name onto DoDMERB. I am not sure about Navy, but I know West Point requires you to be pretty much completed with you application before they foward your name on to DoDMERB.

When I applied last year I was notified in the mail three weeks after going in for my DoDMERB exams. (Just to give you a rough idea of what to expect.)

Cheers

Thanks cadet2017 and LFRY94, DS is applying only to West Point and AROTC he is ARMY all the way....he wants to follow his grandpa's legacy into the 82nd Airborne. DS has completed his file and took his DoDMERB exam on Aug 6th. He said it went smoothly with no surprises. From what you say he can expect to hear something in about 3 weeks...thank you for the info!

I think my son was one of the earliest to go through-and the later you go through the more kids in the system so it may take longer. But here is my son's schedule listed on DODMERB-he was referred to dodmerb by USNA but then USMA also asked for a status:

09-JUL-12 Date applicant entered into DoDMERB system
09-JUL-12 Application Added
19-JUL-12 Actual date of exam
24-JUL-12 Date exam received at DoDMERB
25-JUL-12 Medical data entry
25-JUL-12 Date exam reviewed
26-JUL-12 Date letter sent - DD2368: Status Letter (USNA qualified letter mailed- received the letter two days later)
30-JUL-12 Date letter sent - DD2368: Status Letter (USMA qualified letter mailed-received the letter two days later and was on my son's portal)

Cadet 2017,

You are a candidate, please don't assume anything, because it hurts posters when they do not realize you are a candidate just like them.

That is nowhere near the truth. 1st off it is not the AFA, it is the AF picking up the tab.

AFA/AFROTC generate a DoDMERB exam when they look at your records and believe you have a strong shot for an appointment or scholarship.

AF is known to be the tight wad, be it LOA's or scholarships. Look at WP/USNA thread for LOAs compared to AFA. Scholarship boards for AFA compared to A/NROTC
LOA's for AFA from a number standpoint are way lower than WP or USNA
1st AFROTC board is in Dec...Navy and Army months prior. NROTC is monthly starting Aug/Sept time frame.

I am not trying to attack you, although I am sure you feel I am; I am trying to inform candidates/posters your post made it look like it was faster to get through the AFA process compared to other SAs. That is a fallacy.

Nobody here knows Cadet2017's packet. AFA felt they were very competitive and were willing to be charged the exam to their branch.

Do not assume that is the norm., especially for AF. PM Flieger and Christcorp, both are ALO's before you start the OMG Cadet2017 took the exam and I have heard nothing yet; IT'S ALL OVER FOR ME!

I have no bone in the fight, but will tell you the AFA due to costs were very selective when it came to exams, Flieger even stated so on this site. Cadet 2017 don't start the Woo Hoo dance, because you cleared the 1st hurdle...it is still @7 months away until the boards close.

I get you want to assist, but be cognizant of the system before you tell posters and lurkers before you say "I Know" anything

Do you know why?

Again, not trying to be antagonistic, but when you post, lurkers and posters are willing to accept as fact your post since you stated "I KNOW". That statement alludes/infers you have insight.

JMPO, DoDMERB is somewhere you never post unless you understand the system. DoDMERB is scary and many of our members/lurkers now will question why you had an exam and they have yet to hear from AFA or AFROTC.

Fact is they are the norm.

FLIEGER AND CHRISTCORP PLEASE POST.

OBTW, the reason you see vague answers on this forum from posters is because there is no poster here that is part of DoDMERB.

AGAIN, not trying to attack. Trying to only make you understand when you post as a candidate members/lurkers saying "I know" will accept your post as fact.

If anyone is interested, the answer for Navy, at least in my experience, was no. They didn't ask me for any other paperwork aside from the initial DoDMETS questionnaire and some stuff that I had to submit for my waiver.

Okay Pima, point taken. And I want to apologize to any other canidates if I mislead them. I wasn't trying to scare anyone, I just answered a question that someone asked. Mabe the wrong word to use was know. I was under the wrong assumption that USAFA is quicker than WP when obtaining medical clearnace, but you quickly corrected me. I thank you for that Pima. Also, I am definitley not getting this starting a "whoo dance" yet. I said its a good feeling to get this hurdle out of the way. Meaning this hurdle out of many out of the way. Under no circumstances was I out to brag or give false information or worry any canidate. My intent for even starting this thread was not to brag about passing the DoDMERB exam, it was just to see if the Service Academies will ask for all your medical records if your fortunate to get in to one. It was a silly question that I was just curious about. I never expected this thread to explode like this. And then when Roadking asked a question on how long it took me to see results, I answered him. I'm not saying that is typical for everyone, but in my case that is how long it took me. Again I apologize for using the word "know". I really feel awful that I may have worried canidates or given out false information. Thanks Nunesis for answering my original question! Seems like this thread kind of deviated from my original question.

Cadet, the problem with internet forums is nobody can judge the intonation of any post. Hence why I kept stating over and over again I am not trying to be antagonistic. I really was saying I am not attacking, I am trying to illustrate.

Cadet, my issue was with your assumption/insinuation that because the AFA only required 3 forms compared to WP requiring more forms AFA offers it faster for the exam. They don't.

I was responding to your statement.

Many candidates read too much into going for the exam, hence the Woo hoo comment.

It is great to clear that hurdle, but if you are a candidate that has yet to hear anything regarding the exam, don't freak out. The AFA like every branch is holding off candidates until they are deemed competitive, assuming that the AFA is going to pay for a lot of the tests because they require 3 forms proves the old cliche of what assume really means.

I apologize if it came across the wrong way, as I stated intonation is not part of the forum. I was just trying to stress why your comment had fault in your logic, and why some poor poster/lurkers who have yet to hear about scheduling a DoDMERB exam should not start thinking anything negative regarding chances. Additionally why I stated I hope CC or Flieger chimed in to allay those fears.

DoDMERB is very scary to many candidates. Taking the exam this early is great for you. I am sorry I didn't say congrats. I just saw posters reading that part of your post and flipping out and I felt it was important that this board didn't go on fire with OMG, I have not been scheduled yet, does that mean I am not competitive? or What 3 forms for the AFA did you submit before you got notified of the exam? or How long did it take before they notified you? posts.
