My classes are as follows:

1.) Late Start (To catch up on homework)
2.) Physics
3.) AP US History
4.) AVID
LUNCH
6.)English III/IV Speech/Debate/Comp
7.) Digital Photo
8.) Pre-Calculus

Does this sound good???

Thanks:)

The only part of your schedule I'm curious about is the Late Start block. You say that it is needed to catch up on homework. I understand that you are probably busy with sports/extracurriculars but if I saw that on your schedule as an Admissions Officer, I would probably question your time management abilities. There is no such thing as a "late start" block here at the Academy. We all get up at 0530-0600 and are up until at least 2200 and most are up later than that. All of that time is spent doing something. Is it absolutely necessary to have the late start block?

Otherwise, your schedule looks pretty solid, especially with the physics and precalculus blocks.

As freshmen we had an extra elective so this year we had the choice of having a late start. If I had a 1st period it would have to be an elective I have already taken. I'm ahead on my credits right now as well.

Thanks:)

I would take an elective, any elective, rather than coming in late. To be quite honest, your schedule looks pretty do-able for an average high school student and I too question the need to "catch up" on homework during a late start. Why not volunteer at your school during that block of time tutoring, helping out in a math, science or PE class, the library, guidance or front office? IMHO, you can never be too "ahead" on credits. I've known candidates whose graduation credit requirement was 22 and they managed to earn 31. It's time to set yourself apart from the norm :thumb:

I think all the service academies want to see a candidate take the most challenging course load available to them in high school. Having an open block in your junior year opens you up to a question if your schedule is as challenging as possible. At the end of my son’s junior year he technically only needed a senior English course to graduate. He still took seven other classes (mostly AP and Honors) his senior year.

You may also want to consider upgrading your English class to AP English if it is available at your school.

He may be at a very small school. This sounds as if there are no available classes for him to take unless he repeats a class already taken.

My opinion: take the free period. I had 1 off period my junior year and 2 my senior year and I did fine. You do want to leave a little time to have fun your senior year... Plus your transcript is probably just going to list your classes so I doubt admissions will even know that you had the audacity to take a 1 hour break. And although Cadets get up at 0600 every morning they have off periods during the school day and spend at least a little extra time down in the wardroom not working...

I would suggest upgrading at least one of your classes to an AP class if possible though.
