Will a September 19th ROTC scholarship interview be too late in order to meet the first board? My application and supporting documents need to be submitted by October 1st, so will completing the interview on September 19th be cutting it too close?

The PMS at my top-choice school told me that he will submit the interview sheet right after my interview but it does take some time for the interview to show up on my scholarship application. I called the PMS today and he is not available to interview in early September and the earliest he can interview me is September 19th.

If he submits the interview sheet directly after my interview, there will be over a week before the October 1st deadline to submit documents. Will I be cutting it too close by interviewing on September 19th?

Last year it was mid September when my son completed his interview and he met the first board and received a scholarship. If the dates are the same as last year, I would think you would be fine. If in doubt ask the PMS at the school you plan on interviewing.

Do I have to submit all my documents before doing my interview?

No, but if you are trying to be reviewed by the first board then you should be very close to having everything sent in. It does not always run smooth at Cadet Command, they have thousands of applications to process and if you cut it close to the deadline of Oct 1st then you run the risk of your paperwork sitting on a desk and not processed for the 1st board. I would try and have all your paperwork in at least 2 weeks before the deadline.

The PMS inputs your interview into an on-line form and hits the SUBMIT button. Whether he/she (there *are* female PMSs) does the filling out real-time Question by Quesiton during your live interview, or while you watch just after the Interview, or does it that night after your interview, makes no difference. When the PMS hits SUMBIT in the on-line form, your Interview is in your Electronic file at Cadet Command. All the CC admin has to do at that point is go in, print it out, and stick it in your file. That takes all of 2 minutes. Or perhaps the Board has gone paperless by now?

At any rate, if I were you, I would get everything to CC (SAT/Transcript/Counselor Form/PFT, etc.) before Sept. 19 (see next post). I would then both email and call CC (every once in a while someone actually answers) the day after your Interview, and ask them to verify that your file is complete and ready to send to the Board. This is also your last opportunity to change the priority Order of the schools you listed on your Application.

you should aim for that. Remember, in the military, on-time is late, and early is on-time. Can you imagine how much paperwork the admins at CC are going to get in the five days prior to Oct. 1? Best to avoid that madness if you can.

You should be fine with the 19th. Dunninla is right, it's automated, so it's not like you are relying on the post office. Keep in mind also that the deadline is a couple days before the actual board meets, so you have a little additional time there for your paperwork to be processed. You should also be able to check online and call your ROO to make sure your interview is posted.

Thanks. I'm about done with everything (Planning on doing the PFT within two weeks, scores are ready to be sent, and my counselor is filling out the transcript form right now). I'll hopefully be done with everything besides the interview by the first week of September. Is it possible for me to schedule my interview before I have finished the other parts of the application?

Yes you can schedule your interview at any point during the application process. I would do it ASAP because as the OP said, he scheduled his sometime in August and doesn't have it until September. Mostly likely since the school is starting the PMS is going to be busy, meaning calling once might not get you in touch. Good Luck!
