Hello - If you've seen me on other boards on this forum you'll know that I'm the mom of a 1/C Midshipman at USMMA, Kings Point. However, we live about an hour and a half north of "the other Point.":shake: From before the time DH and I had kids we've gone to West Point for football games, roughly alternating with games at Syracuse (DH is a Syracuse grad). Yesterday we went with our two younger sons to the Army-Stony Brook game.

The weather wasn't the greatest - cloudy and cool. We intended to be there in time for the cadet parade at 0900, but we got a late start - and when we arrived the traffic was awful. We weren't able to park our car until 1000, long after the parade ended. We parked down on the Target Hill Athletic Field by the river, where lots of folks had really great tailgate parties going!

Since we missed the parade, we decided to just get a shuttle bus up to Michie Stadium. "Black Knights Alley" opens outside the stadium at 0900, and they have lots of displays, food, games and vendors. Yesterday they had the Army Sports Class of 2012 Hall of Fame inductees available for autographs, and they gave out a photo sheet with all of the inductees.

We zipped through security, which consists of a search of any carry-in bags and a wanding. It looked like mostly plebes doing the security search, with upperclassmen supervising. I strongly recommend to get up to the stadium early - when we arrived the security lines were short. When we went to a game two years ago, we missed the first part of the first quarter because of the lines - and we saw lots of people this time who missed kickoff because they were waiting for the security lines.

At this point it was 1030. We walked around Black Knights Alley and, since we hadn't had breakfast, decided to have an early lunch. Foot-long hot dogs - they're filling. We ate by the wall overlooking Lusk Reservoir - the boys enjoyed pulling off parts of their hot dog rolls to feed the sunfish.

After our early lunch, we decided to walk around a bit more and then enter the stadium proper. Our 12 YO son has just started playing football and wanted to see the pregame workout. Tickets scanned, we walked over to the far side from Black Knights Alley. We had seats in section U10, on the right side of the press box. Certainly got my exercise climbing all those stairs! There were a lot of Boy Scouts in attendance - our 12 YO Scout could have worn his uniform and fit right in.

The USMA Band came out for a pregame show, after which the Fourth Regiment marched on for the National Anthem.

And here comes the team....

More to come....

Unfortunately, they had to cancel the planned parachute jump before the game. We need to come back for another game to see it....:thumb:

Also unfortunately, the game wasn't that great for Army. Too many fumbles and penalties. However, you really can't beat the atmosphere of a football game at West Point.

At halftime, the band greeted the Army Sports Hall of Fame 2012 inductees:

And then the band did a routine of NFL theme music:

The game was over by 1500. It took a while to get the shuttle back to the soccer field, but we liked seeing all the cadets walking back to their barracks or visiting with some of the game visitors. I know it's to be expected (and I know my own son does this), but Academy students are the most polite, most helpful college students I've seen.:thumb:

If you have a chance to visit New York State in the fall, I'd highly recommend a football weekend at West Point.

Great pictures!

I'm the dot in the left center of the last picture

My wife and I are also making the trip from California to see Army vs. BC. Since we are going to be there anyway we thought we might as well visit with our favorite Plebe (she has been packing all of his favorite snacks for the last 2 weeks!).

I am very glad I logged on to see your post. My wife and I are headed to the BC game this weekend. It will be our first game at Michie Stadium. Oldest son is a Cow, and youngest is a freshman at BC, on a 4 year ROTC scholarship. Have not seen the oldest since he left to be a squad leader at Beast II, and it will be the first time they are together in uniform, as the BC ROTC cadets are going to WP on Thursday, and staying for the game. My wife and I are very excited for the weekend.

Now we need to decide who to cheer for....??

Well, you could do what DH did last year for the Kings Point-Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute game (DH received his Master's from RPI and taught there for 13 years). We sat on the Kings Point side and DH wore his RPI baseball cap.:shake: I, however, stuck to my Kings Point sweatshirt.

Hope you enjoy your weekend here and have a great time with your sons! It's supposed to be fairly cool this weekend, so please dress warm. Michie Stadium is on a hill not far from the river, so it can get cold. Two years ago I dressed warm for the Army-TCU game and still was freezing. I would also recommend bringing stadium chairs or a blanket to sit on - the steel bleachers can be cold and uncomfortable. They do rent stadium chairs.
