likelyhood of 2 from same school receiving appointment?

Me (a female) and another guy from my school are both applying for the USNA. We have around the same stats,I believe, but he is a recruited athlete (for the same sport I do, I am not recruited). What is the possibility of us both receiving an appointment? I know we both really want it, but can it happen? My state is not very competitive, so I know we can most likely both get a nom, but I was just wondering?

Also, do the recruited athlete's have the same order of completing things? just a question.
 
It is very possible, in fact I've seen it happen. Twice. I went to a very competitive high school, I don't know how competitive my district/state is in comparison to others, but very rigorous high school. I graduated in 2012 with a 4.151 GPA and still ranked 63/463 in my class. We had over 70 valedictorians in my graduating class (4.1 or higher). I'll get to the point, in 2011, two kids from my high school received appointments to the USNA, they are both 3/C this year. Last year, two of my very good friends applied to the USAFA and they both were accepted.
 
In DS's school, 3 students applied and all 3 received appointments and all of them were from the same very competitive district. I don't think MOC used his slate for my DS as he had an LOA, but I have no idea how this nomination works. All I can say is that multiple candidates can be appointed from the same school and the same district.

That`s a good question! I`m in a similar predicament. (Sorry to hijack this thread, but pointless to start a new one with relatively the same question.)

What if it happens to be a competitive state, 4 people (3 guys, and me, a girl) are applying and one person has way better stats academically?

That happens to be my situation ^. The one guy, it`s probably a tie, the other, I happen to know I`m "better" and the other is in a gifted math and science program? Of course, I realize academics aren`t the only thing that matter. He plays golf, I run track. Our EC`s are pretty similar, and if it matters (Not that the admissions board would ever know this, but I`m throwing this out there just in case it matters), the guy who`s way better is only applying because it`s a good engineering school...he`s never expressed a desire to attend, and only wants to attend because a guy from our youth group attended the SS and he heard it`s a good engineering school from him. The other two applying and myself want to attend because we want to be in the military.

Again, sorry to hijack the thread.
 
Not sure why you are really worried about this 97133M! Especially since your candidate cycle is a couple years down the road...who knows if those same people would even be interested.

You have had two people state that multiple people can receive appointments from the same high school.

You don't know how everyone will fair out with the Admissions Board, so you should really focus on making the application the best you can....you can't control anything but.

In the spirit of kindness, I was thinking same. NOW is the time that a candidate with time to impact his record to enhance those stats that are currently a bit below some others. :redface:Don't worry about them. Worry about you! :wink: And a whole lot less about trying to scoop the system. :thumb: More books. More pushups. More SAT prep. More service. :rockon: Less serviceacademyforum. :zip:

Thanks usnabgo08 and WP, appreciate the input....I definitely will worry about myself more than them and work on enhancing MY application...not sit around and worry about what others are doing. :shake: You`re right, too many candidates submit their application and worry about not doing enough, and this is my chance to makes sure I DO do enough. Thank you both for the pep talk!

I had 4 candidates from the same school be offered (and accept) appointments last year.

So the answer is . . . it depends on the quality of the applicants but it can and frequently does happen.
 
I likewise have had 4 candidates from the same school receive appointments in one year. The thing to bear in mind is that a school may have students from more than one congressional district, especially in larger cities that have four or five such districts, also you may have noms from several non-congressional sources at play; eg, presidential, ROTC, etc. In short, the offers are not based upon the school but the source of nom. Don't get strung out on this topic. Best wishes.
 
Our son had 2 others that were appointed to the service academies from his small graduating class of only 63 along with himeself! One didn't tell the others he was applying until my son ran into him at the DOMERB physical. Then the cat was out of the bag! DS did worry a lot after that, but as Whistle Pig said, we just told him to buckle down and focus on what he had to do to be the best that he could be. Turned out ok, so just work hard and run and then run some more, because if you get accepted, you will be running a lot!:shake:
 
Honestly and truly the best thing that happened to my son (with regards to the application process) was to find out a total ringer from his high school was also applying. He ramped up his game knowing he had to compete with the class president (literally).

Yep, it happens...

My DS was accepted to USNA and is currently there as a Plebe. His best friend was also accepted and is also currently there as a recruited athlete. Just remember two things...1) both had great academics, differing, but equal community service, and both were on the FB team, he was a talented offensive back, DS was a lineman and linebacker. 2) Both are Plebes, and are "suffering" the same challenges as Plebes.
 
I just received an LOA and another kid from my high school received his LOA a few weeks ago. It doesn't really matter where you go to school, what's more important is what district you're in because that plays a key role in getting a nomination
 
From what I experienced in the application and nomination process, the high school that you go to doesn't really matter. If all of the qualified candidates from one district come from the same high school, very well then, they get the appointments. Never once in my application process did I see my high school get considered for anything other than to provide basic information. I go to USNA, and another kid from my JROTC unit went USAFA at the same time. Also, from my rifle team, I went USNA, another kid went USAFA, and another went USMA at the same time. Your individual achievements matter a hell of a lot more than whether or not you are a part of the same organization as somebody else.
 
As several others have stated - Put together the best application you can. This is the only part of the application process you actually control. Do not worry about others around you. Even if they are in the same high school they are doing their best which may or may not be good enough compared to your application.

As far as kids from the same high school being at USNA. During my former Mid's plebe year there were 7 kids from her former high school at USNA. There were 3 at West Point as well. So yes, it's possible but it's not something you have any control over. Control your application by making it the best you can with no regrets.
