I'm not sure if there is a thread already reserved for CFA training, but I was wondering if any current or previous applicants had any advice regarding training for the CFA. More specifically I am worried about my basketball throw and shuttle/mile times.

Here are my current (practice) scores:

BB throw: 59 feet
Shuttle: 9.6
Mile: 8:30

My run times are the most distressing (especially the mile). I am also trying to put the basketball closer to that 100' mark. I would appreciate any training advice that could be provided

Thanks in advance.

Are these male or female scores?

The best advice I could give anyone, being a runner myself, is to make time to run at least a mile every day. You can take the weekends off, but you must be an active runner to succeed.

I ran a ~6:45 on my CFA and I was a conditioned runner. When I got up here to the prep school, I discovered that my mile time was even slower. I've been running at least 3 miles a day here trying to acclimate to the altitude change, and I'm finding it to be fairly difficult. You'll want to be as proficient as possible in case you do get an appointment. Otherwise, you'll have your work cut out for you when you get here!

For you mile time, I would recommend running about 3mi at least 3x per week. You should also run the 1mi once a week, for time. The distance will help get your endurance up and condition you for running, but actually running the 1mi will help you get your pacing correct.

For the shuttle, my recommendation would be run suicides on the basketball court. You might consider only doing up to half-court, because the shuttle run is all short distances. (Caveat: my shuttle run time wasn't great, so defer to other suggestions from those who know better!)
