rank: top 13% (class is very competitive)

Extracurricular: Black belt in shorin-ryu martial arts; varsity letter in soccer and swimming; club soccer for 8 years; president of FBLA; class officer for two years; language club officer for two years; National Honor Society; 175+ community service hours; volunteer with NASA; IB student




Looking at the previous class profiles, I see that 90% of acceptances are in the top 10% of their class. I am worried that the fact that I am not will significantly hinder my chances. Thoughts? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Good start
-Work to get a higher class standing (top 10%)
-Re-take the SAT with concentration on getting a higher math score
-Try to be a team captian
-Go for Boy's State (Local American Legion selection)

I don't think it will affect your chances at all to be completely honest with you. They will look at your GPA, the difficulty of your IB and AP classes, and most likely realize that your high school is highly competitive.

My guess, you will be academically qualified, which means you will get an appointment if you are the #1 candidate in your nomination category.

I said this before, most candidates are not competiting against some magic standard (i.e if you score 700 on SAT you are in), rather you are working to be the fully qualified than being the #1 candidate in your nomination category (exception is the Presidential, top 100 or top 150)

And be select with what free advice on the Internet you follow. Your research has shown 90% are in the top 10% of their class. You are either in the top 10% or not. You still have time, very limited time, to affect that positively and that will be a plus.

Unless things have changed you do not have a 2080 SAT but rather a 1320. Check that score versus the profile. Again you have the opportunity to change that.

You received some advice from BigNick. Research his prior posts. I believe you will conclude his advice should be heeded.

The class profile is for the entire class. Your chance of admission is strongly tied to what MOC district you are in and what the competition is for that district this year. Almost impossible to tell who you are really applying against so my advice is always try to improve your application and do not stop until you have an appointment.
