Anyone have an idea if the Academy will issue any LOA's this year to any of this summer's AIM participants? If so, any idea on quantity or timing?

I too am wondering this same question. Anyone hear any word whether USCGA will be issuing any LOAs this year or not? And if so, do you know if/when they will go (or gone) out?

Good Luck to all!!!

We issued 15 letters of assurance last week, but I believe all the students also received phone calls, so everyone should know by now.

I didn't even know that you could receive a LOA for attending AIM...I'm guessing they had to submit all their paperwork before recieving the LOA, right?

Sorry, I'm a little confused on the process. Also, how does attending AIM give those select few a LOA?

Wow..only 15! The year my son (c/o 2014) received his, I heard 48 were given out. This low number just goes to show how incredibly competitive this application year will be. As a mom of a previous LOA recipient, I know just how happy, proud, and excited they are. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

The AIM application (and selection process) includes transcripts, test scores, essay questions, and letters of recommendation. It is not a random lottery--every applicant's submission package is carefully read and scored.

Those who attend AIM are also evaluated by cadre, are given a PFE test, and may be interviewed by a member of the admissions staff as well.

All of these things can play a part in the issuing of a Letter Of Assurance, which is a conditional offer of appointment (the contingency usually stated as "finishing the application" and a medical qualification from DODMERB).

Okay! Thanks so much for clearing that up Luigi, that makes a lot more sense now!

I received an LOA from the Coast Guard Academy in September and I attended week 1 of AIM! :) Congrats and good luck to everyone else!

EA II

Can you read anything into the 15 LOAS given that EA II applications are not due until Nov.15th? Might 15 more go out when those applicantions are reviewed?

No more LOA's will be issued, but we will start to tender conditional and full appointments to EA1 applicants in mid-November.
