Go away Sandy

I guess this is the October surprise that will affect the election by suppressing early voting in those states that have it...

Best of luck to those experiencing it in the upcoming days.

We dont want you. Turn right and go toward Europe. Please!!
Amen brother! Boat is secure, gutters cleared, loose stuff off the porch and a ton of batteries and water bottles in my house. But I am on a plane waiting for ddors to close enroute from Boston to Acuna Mexico on a business trip right now so my wife and kids are riding this out on their own. I hope it isn't too ugly as my wife will rightly unleash a hurricane of her own on me when I get back! Good luck all!

Remember last year with the snow. Still have some damaged trees and still trying to clear them up. Left Newport in the rain and drove through more and more snow on the way home. Barely got in the driveway but wife loved the two weeks off from school. Still working on the gutters. Don't forget to fill the garbage barrels with water for the toilets. That is always something everyone forgets.:shake:

Just an update : In southern NY rain is starting to fall... the beginning of the end...

In VA, they`re predicting winds 60+ MPH and downed trees and power lines....school hasn`t been closed yet, but it very well could be. Fairfax County is closed until Tuesday, and I head NYC is closed until Thursday.

School closed for us tomorrow. Wife loves that. Still no rain or wind. Still no news from Mass Maritime. RI schools closed and her school has canceled tomorrow so little one will spend the day in the dorm with snacks and movies.

Batteries, water, gas for camping stove, gas tanks for secondary heat source topped off, Ice bags for coolers, extra gas cans full.. More worried about the 50 MPH winds for 2 days with gusts to 75.. Not liking this at all... Power Company trucks line the interstates and truck stops around here.

Federal offices in DC are closed, per OPM.... so my wife gets a snow day...

My office is closed as well, not fed, but watch OPM closures... but this time we got the jump.

Stay safe folks.

My office is open,,, Dept of Public Safety... I think I will be busy:eek:

NAPS is still functioning as usual. We were instructed to load up on food though, in case culinary personnel are unable to come on base. Narragansett bay is a bit choppy, but not too bad so far.

The New York Nat. Guard will be deployed

"Cuomo said the Guard will deploy up to 1,175 troops starting Sunday. They'll help local authorities respond to storm damage in New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley and the Southern Tier."

Hopefully this is an overreaction.

It`s headed right towards there, so no overreaction.

This image of Sandy`s path is from yesterday, so it`s changed a little...it`s projected up north even farther. And NY`s directly in her path.

Its coming

Just wind here in lovely central NJ. I think we are the bullseye. I should have cut down those trees around the house. No going to the office probably this week. Disaster Recovery in the Watchung Mountains, if I can get there. My office is in Jersey City right on the Hudson. I think the building is about 8 feet above the water. My office is on the 31rst floor. Hope the water does not reach there. I heard they were sandbagging the Path station.

Exchanges closed tomorrow

More importatant than that. I wish everyone safety in the path of this monster.

I have to say the best thing the AF taught me was how to prepare for a hurricane while Bullet took the jets to safety.

Bullet was laughing at me because I filled up all of the old milk jugs, water bottles in my recycles and threw them in the freezer starting on Sat. Since he never lived through a hurricane he couldn't understand why.
~~~ Clean them and freeze them accomplishes many things.
~ 1900 ICEBOX. Big chunks of Ice like 4 or 5 gallon containers save my food that was already in the freezer.
~ If you live on a well/septic and lose electricity the pumps stop working...Water jugs thawed can be use to fill up the toilet...I am a NJ girl...I must have a working toilet.
~ If you live on city, the water may be not potable...again now you have safe drinking water.
He also laughed at me because even this a..m. I am still doing laundry, vacuuming, and cleaning like a banshee because I suspect by midnight we won't have electricity for several days. I even will have him turn on our gas fireplace pilot lights so if we do lose electricity, we will have heat on both floors from our fireplaces.
Yes, Kindles, laptops and phones are also charged!
I laughed at the people in the grocery store on Sat., regarding what they were buying. The eggs, bacon, lunch meats, milk are going to spoil unless you have a generator if we lose electricity. Me I went straight for Parmalat Milk, cereal, paper plates, paper towels, cups and WINE!
One woman 2 people in front of me was buying Ice Cream and Hot pockets. LMAO, she said to the cashier, she had small kids so since Halloween wouldn't happen, plus she would be stuck home with them and they would be bored she wanted to treat them to things she never buys.
I guess she didn't get the memo about losing electricity and how the gas oven has an electric start, the dishwasher won't clean dishes.
What shocked me was on the TWC they were stating that PSE & G expect 550K to 1 MN of their 2.2 MN customers will lose electricity. PSE &G are basically the monopoly for NJ electricity.
Never thought the Marine Corps would close down for rain.
Nothing too crazy so far, but I saw about all of TBS in the beer/wine aisle of Giant this morning prepping for the worst.
