NROTC recruiting office - when/how/where?

DS is a junior. he's sorting through the NROTC units right now as his junior year progresses so he's ready to fill out the app this coming spring.

There is a link to a Navy recruiting district, NROTC Scholarship Coordinator on NROTC website for us: Irving TX. (Marine option is in OKC)

Is this the recruiter that so many of you mention, when you speak of filling out the NROTC app? should he ideally show up in person first? call first? ever show up in person?

or should he be working with someone at the Universities' units?

or both? which to contact first? i'm afraid the jargon is getting confusing.

I am going to start by saying that this is bad advice, but it worked for us! When my daughter applied for her NROTC scholarship, I had not yet discovered this forum. She completed the online application, submitted test scores,recommendations etc. We did all of this without any communication with any recruiter!

She was contactedto arrange an interview, which we scheduled and she completed. Then we waited and waited. In the meantime, we did college visits, but never visited the ROTC offices while on campus.

Shortly after our visits were completed, I discovered this forum and realized how uneducated we had been about the whole process, but too late then!

She did receive a NROTC scholarship! Now listen to the advice of all the others who will tell you theright way to do things! (And I am not being sarcastic, I really wish I had the advice beforehand!)

We followed the same process but we also visited the units at the colleges we visited. Sometimes we met with the PNS, sometimes ROO, or even MOI or Freshman adviser. DS also did an overnight at VA Tech with the Corps of Cadets. He decided an SMC was not for him. We aren't too far from our district offices so the interview was done there as opposed to one of the units. He stayed in touch with the officers he interfaced with there once they had contacted him to set up the interview. He also did the PFT there. All that being said, he did not get a Marine Option scholarship at that time, but Dad is hopeful for the future. DS doesn't care as long as he commissions, but he's doing his best to get a side load scholarship and I think he has a good shot this semester.

I would add (and I know I don't really need to say this) not to forget about applying for other scholarship opportunities. DS won a merit scholarship to his first choice OOS college which brought tuition down almost to in-state levels so it doesn't cost me much more to send him there than it would here in NC. He needs to maintain a 3.0 to keep it which is a higher cgpa than NROTC requires. I like that and he has no trouble maintaining that so far.

And in the vein of rudyinok's last remark, I like gettingmoregrayhair as a moniker too. Sure beats gettinglessgrayhair.

My log in name came about when I posted for the first time on this forum. At that point in time it was I think April 29th, with college decisions due on May 1st, and we were still waiting for DD online scholarship status to change! The waiting process led to my choice of name!
