Difficulty communicating with admissions

For the past few weeks, I have been having difficulty communicating with academy representatives. I applied EA1 and have been looking for an interview since I sent in my application. I live in San Francisco and my regional admissions officer was here for a week. We had discussed my interview beforehand and decided that he would meet with me that week. Later, when I tried to contact him to confirm our meeting, he did not respond.

I then talked to a pilot at my local air station (an admissions partner) who was going to interview me, but he got word from the academy that it was too late for me to be interviewed. To add to the confusion, my regional admissions partner emailed me saying that he was ready to interview me. I said that I would be glad to, but I have not heard from him since.

I understand that very few people are interviewed, and I am more concerned about USCGA admissions' lack of correspondence with me and what it means regarding the status of my application than I am about my inability to receive an interview. Can anyone provide any insight? Is my fear that the academy admissions office has not contacted me because of the denial of my application rational?

I had a similar experience, I suppose the admissions officers travel a lot and you can always call the admissions office directly to get a more immediate response.

If you applied EA I it is too late as the deadline has passed and they have already started reviewing applications. If you get wait-listed you can ask for an interview then to help your application.

I doubt that the reason they haven't contacted you is because they have or are planning to deny your application. The admissions office wouldn't leave you in the dark simply because they weren't planning on accepting you.

I called the admissions office several times this week. I left a message on Monday, but unfortunately they have not responded. Well, it's good to hear that I'm not the only one.

In my experience, the admissions office is extremely hard to get ahold of directly. I received a response once immediately from the administrative assistant after leaving a voicemail, but never one from the staff member in charge of application status. However, you can imagine the volume of calls they receive every day. There is no possible way to respond to every single one.

The best way to maintain contact with the Academy is through your Admissions Officer. If you emailed them and didn't get a response, call them. If you called them and didn't get a response, email them. If you have tried every possible way, try again. People sometimes become very busy and simply need a reminder to reply to you. I doubt they are "ignoring" you.

Since you applied EA I, it is definitely too late for you to request an interview as they are starting to review the EA II applications very soon. I am not sure if you are able to request one if you are placed on the waiting list, but I do know that interview requests are only fulfilled through January. Therefore, if you want one, you need to request one ASAP.

We definitely don't ignore applicants, regardless of what your admissions status is, but it's almost always easier to reach (and get a response from) the Admissions Officers via e-mail. If you didn't receive an "out of office" auto-reply and don't hear back after a few days, just send them a reminder message...
