Great game by Army. Just came up a little short. The look on Trent Steelman's face absolutley broke my heart. The emotion he was clearly showing brought me to tears. What did you guys think? Go Army!

Y'know, I've always rooted for Navy. My Dad was a Navy vet, wanted me to go to Annapolis, and DS is a 1/C MIDN at Kings Point. If DS doesn't go active duty Navy, he'll be a Navy Reserve sailing with Military Sealift Command. That being said, I was rooting for Army. It was time - and they came so close.:frown: We're about 50 miles north of West Point, and it's a great place to watch football.:thumb:

Yet again, the Army team beat itself. I thought it was fitting that Trent Steelman's last play was so representative of his Army Football career.

As a current cadet I can understand the frustration even more than the rest of us who were rooting for Army - but you're edging into the mean-spirited regime. I thought it was a great game - definitely too many turnovers though - wish they would have pulled it out. Hopefully you'll do good on your finals - and that along with Christmas break will hopefully lift your spirits!

Not my place to judge, but that seemed a little harsh. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the fullback fumbled it, no? Just recently started watching SA sports, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong haha.

Steelman never got it all the way to him on the handoff. The fullback isn't supposed to take it from him unless he gets it all the way to his gut.

And I'm not trying to be mean spirited, I'm just tired of all the articles that make it seem as if Trent Steelman and the rest of the football team are up late at night doing laundry duties by themselves while simultaneously practicing and tutoring their classmates.

I will just say this was the game was amazing, and the players did great. Several mistakes happened, and that's part of the game. I am proud of the players.

Just saw the replay and you're right. I missed it he first time. Yeah, I doubt that the football team is perfect. Still have respect for everyone there though, especially D-1 athletes.

They're called "Yuks" for a reason.

You think you feel bad? Think of the players and how they feel...I can't describe the 5 min following the end of the game. Dont think I've ever felt so bad about a football game ever. But it probably doesn't compare to what they are going through. Terrible record this season, whatever, we came within a touchdown of beating Navy and it was a bitter day but I'm proud of our team

100% agree. Trent Steelman has been single-handedly blowing games for four years. That play was a fitting end to a career that was long on potential and short on output.

Also, leave it to professional boob Rich Ellerson to wait until the 4th quarter to start using the passing game.

There is no substitute for victory. It's time to start winning, or find us a coach who will.

I can't agree with you on the first point. (about single-handedly blowing games) He has certainly not been the weak link the last four years. The last three years Army has had its highest scoring teams since the 1990's. More often than not for the past two seasons it has been the defense which has not held up. Also, you know that the team is not built to pass...

I do agree with your final point. It's ok to be out-talented, but no excuse to be out-executed. Too many mistakes game after game. I don't think 1-7 in Service Academy games over four years deserves another chance...

Army Navy Game

I have been on both sides of this. You have the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Army has nothing to be ashamed of, it is the best I have seen, them play in awhile. West Point can be extremely proud of them, I know I am and I am a NAVY fan.

Go Navy, Beat Army,

RGK

I totally disagree with your assessment of Steelman...He has been a four year starter and has the West Point record for most rushing touchdowns! Not too shabby, there were some good players in the long history of Army football. This young man has given everything he had for his team and has represented himself extremely well during his career at WP. He will be in the WP Hall of Fame, you can bet on that!

Where I do agree with you is regarding the play calling...They had Navy on their heels and were pounding them on every play, then they get conservative. They chew up yardage on the option roll outs, but yet they insist on fullback up the middle???? Coach, KEEP RUNNING THE OPTION UNTIL THEY PROVE THEY CAN STOP IT!!!! FRUSTRATING! Trust your players to do what they do best. GO ARMY!!

I'm guessing you haven't watched much Army football. Steelman has the record, yes. That's largely a function of being a 4-year starter on a team that only runs. He's also single-handedly fumbled away so many Army drives that I can't stand to see him handle the ball.

And to top it all off...quartermaster.

Surely not class rank?? I assumed personal choice when he said that in his blipvert. Then again, in his bio it said he went to USMA to play football, and did not have other Div 1 offers.

I still think he is a better than average QB, very hard to tell what the real problem is with the errors & play calling we saw Sat. Then again, saw some bad play calling & time mgt in the GA/AL Game as well.

I'm not going to badmouth anyone.... This 4th hand post on FB puts it into perspective:

Comment by an Air Force retiree: "Watching Army and Navy fight that hard against each other, those of you that threaten this country have been warned. When those competitors combine forces to come after you, I can't imagine anything more frightening. We will continue to sleep safely and soundly at night because of that Warrior Spirit. Thank you."

I expected a quartermaster comment from you in this discussion and I have no reply

But, I have seen all of the home games except one for the past four years and several road games plus the A/N games and he has not been the problem. They were considerably worse the second half of last year when he was out.

Well you are right and wrong....I did see the Illinois, Rutgers, AirForce games and I was present at the game Saturday. I have been taking my son to West Point for hockey games since he was 7 years old, we have been to a few football games as well. He is now 18 and has an LOA and a SUPE nomination...he is anxiously awaiting the BFE! He hopes to follow his Grandpa's legacy with infantry and 82nd Airborne.... I had many flights both inside and outside (standing on the skids) as well as many rappels, with NYPD Aviation as a SWAT Team member, I kind of hope he finds a love for helicopters. Aviation would be my choice if it was me! I have much respect for you Scoutpilot...Please stay safe!

Walk ons?

I know this is a BIT off topic..
But does anyone know if all of the football players are recruited athletes??
Or what the approximate percentage is?

I have a boy who is intrested in walking on next season..
But not sure how it all works.. He is currently a plebe
