I know I said this a LONG time again, but the Coastie in the banner is a mirror image of the real photo. We do not hold our swords in our left hands. Any way to fix that?

LITS, I'm finding myself checking the banner every time I log on now to see how long it takes to get this fixed!

Thanks for bring this up, LITS. I'll look into it and see if we can fix the issue. It may take some time so please be patient while we address it.

Haha, no biggie. I first brought it up on July 30, 2008. I have no problem waiting.

Just a follow up suggestion.... maybe the banner should be redone, representing the five services academies, but with at least one female included. Right now it's all males.

Sword is still in the wrong hand and there are still no females represented in the photo.

Would love to hear from a female to see if they looked at that photo and wondered "hey, where's the female?"

I am really on board with LITS that we need to fix the reversed USCGA photo and agree with others who think there should be a woman in one of the photos (like marciemi, I hadn't noticed that before -- kudos to LITS for bringing this up!). It shouldn't be a complicated Photoshop task to fix this. For that matter, we should probably have some racial diversity as well. Sorry to be a P.I.M.A, but I think these changes would be terrific and would send a subtle confirmation that all are welcome here (which they already are). I had to take a break over the past couple of months (dealing with a tsunami of work-related issues), but admittedly, I think of LITS' modest request every time I log on to SAF. There is value, too, in letting this thread percolate a bit longer to let other users chime in with their observations before settling in on a flagship photo for SAF that truly captures the essence of its mission.

Of course, the tremendous wealth of information that SAF provides to users WAY more than offsets any of these issues. We all recognize and appreciate that first and foremost. We also recognize that folks have day jobs that have to take priority. Thank you, TN and others, for providing such a wonderful forum and for being responsive to user suggestions. So, in short, while there is no call for an urgent fix, tweaking the photo should remain -- as it is -- on the long-term agenda.

Of course, a photo of the final scoreboard from this year's Army-Navy game (reflecting USMA's win) would indeed be the ultimate PERFECT change!!!! :thumb: (I specifically reserve the right to change my view about this, though, depending on the ultimate outcome of the game!).

Any chance SAF is working on a new banner for the website yet? I know 1 year and 4 months is quick by DC standards, but seems a bit slow for the interwebnet....

What I had originally brought up:

1. The Coast Guard cadet (second from the left) is likely a reverse image. I don't know any any manual of arms that has someone at "present arms" with their left hand.

2. There are no females in the banner picture. I'm not saying we should have a white guy, black guy, Indian, Asian, etc etc etc.... but perhaps ONE female is in order.

Yep, that's about it though.

You could kill two birds with one stone there is an image of female cadet drawing her saber but I don't know how well it'll fit in the banner.

EDIT: Also found another of a Cadet standing infront of her unit shouldering her saber that may fit better.

We're have to get her to put down the saber and pick up a sword....

LOL the whole time I was typing that I KNEW I was going to get something wrong! :yllol:

I always thought it was called a saber... I'm taking my images and going back into the troll cave

At West Point we always said Saber so maybe it's just a Coast Guard thing?
