I have a nomination but have yet to receive a letter, call or any notification from my congressman's office. From what I understand the only way you are guaranteed an appointment is if you receive a principle nomination and are medically qualified? I don't know what type of nomination I got but for now all i know is that i only got one for AFA since my west point and naval app don't show that i received one for them...

i have seen some people mention being triple qualified or 3Q'd ... i am going to contact my liaison and ask him if he can tell me if i am. Does being triple qualified help with your chances of getting an appointment? currently i am and have been medically qualified for quite some time now for afa usma and naval. i submitted my CFA with all above average scores except for my pull-ups (10) i was one off of the average and push-ups i was 5 off. and academics the academy has me as a 4.0 ... if i do end up being 3Q'd how do the odds look? what are my chances of obtaining an appointment?

the suspense and waiting game are killing me :help: haha

also my last question ... should i still submit my Naval and West Point apps if i dont have a nomination? I just need my teacher evals and personal statements but dont have a nomination. so does that mean i can't get in regardless :frown:

I would call your congressman's office to figure out your nomination status-in the application did it say what kind of nominations your congressman uses? If not, I'd ask when you call if they use competitive or principal/alternates.

You must be 3Q'd in order to receive an appointment. From my experience, it's way easier to contact admissions instead of an ALO to ask specific questions about your application.

Other than that...it's a waiting game. Good luck!

i will try and figure out what type of nomination tomorrow when i call the congressman's office. All it says in my afa app is received and from my congressman.

I will also see if i can call my admisions counselor and see what she can tell me about being triple qualified. My liaison was unaware of what being 3Q'd was.

thanks. i feel waiting is the toughest part :yllol:

Also... my letters of rec haven't been mailed yet. are those necessary to be 3Q'd? I plan on getting them in before the end of this month but my app has been finished for some time now. hopefully it doesnt hurt me

3Q'd is a USMA term. USAFA does not state whether or not you are 3Q'd in your portal or via e-mail. If USAFA refers to you as a "candidate", then you are on the right track. That means they find you qualified AND/OR you have a nomination.

Also, most MOCs state which type of nomination they offer on their website. You can check by going to http://www.house.gov/ and entering your zip code in the box in the upper right hand corner. That could save you a phone call.

Regarding the letters of rec, they should not be a problem if received before the Jan 31 deadline.

Best wishes. :thumb:

I applied without letters of rec and was accepted to the Prep School.

So, they aren't mandatory but obviously highly encouraged.

Our congressman has not listed his nominations as a matter of course, so our OP's may not either.

3Q'd: academically, medically, athletically. And just because you are, and just because you have a nomination, doesn't mean you'll get an appointment.

Make sure you have Plan B in place.

thanks for the replies everyone... well i do believe i am 3Q'd even though AFA technically doesnt send out letters for it or anything but according to dodmerb i am medically, and my grades check out afa says i have a 4.0 and i scored above average on all cfa events except pullups did 1 less and pushups 5 less...

i am still unsure how to check what type of nominations my moc gives? looked on his sight and it just says how to request a nomination. might give one of the people whom i sort of personally know and see if they can clear things up.

lastly i am looking for advice on whether or not i should complete my USMA and USNA apps since i dont have nominations for them. my USAFA app had been done for quite some time since it was my top choice and the others were started later.

I would say to finish the other applications. My reasoning? What have you got to lose?

No Nomination = No Appointment

If you are SURE you have no nomination, then there is no point of continuing. If you are not certain, then proceed with your applications.

Last year our daughter received nominations to USAFA and USNA and at that point did not finish her USMA application since she had not received a nomination to go there.

I would just call the congressman's office on Monday. That way you know what kind of nomination you have as well as if you only have one to USAFA.

thank you for all of the advice everyone. it's been a lot of hard work up to this point and there will be a lot more to come but now i just have to wait and see what hand i'm dealt and go from there...

You are from a pretty competitive area, SoCal, but I would call. You may not have nominations to USMA/USNA simply because you didn't submit the applications.

they personally asked me which was my first choice and as you might think i told them afa and explained why... they also asked if i had completed my app and then i said yes and someone announced to the rest of the board that i indeed did and they sorta took note of that and nodded their heads... that might have to do with it but i did tell them id be just as privileged to attend usma or usna

last year some people received multiple nominations from my congressman but i will still have to call on monday and figure out the details...
