Received a BFE today offering me admissions into the Prepatory School. I am pretty excited. However, I was wondering if it is worth it to call my admissions officer and ask why I was given N.A.P.S. instead of a direct appointment?
 
You could, but consider:

(1) It will not change the decision.
(2) You know what you have to do at NAPS to gain an appointment next year.
(3) You can anticipate being told it was either something in your academics or needed another year of leadership development. Either way, the Admissions Board was the one who determined you were bound for NAPS vs. appointment.

To the OP, accepting a NAPS appointment does NOT take you out of consideration for a direct USNA appointment.

Occasionally (not often -- and sometimes based on new test scores, etc.), USNA will reevaluate a NAPS candidate and decide to offer a direct appointment. The fact you have already accepted the NAPS appointment has no bearing on a decision to reevaluate and/or offer a direct appointment.

So, IOW, if you want to attend USNA and are willing to do NAPS, there is no downside to accepting the NAPS appointment right away.
 
Congratulations and welcome to Newport. Winter can be bad and dreary but downtown is not that bad during any time. Try the Atlantic Grill in Middletown for breakfast.:thumb:
 
Okay 85. That is what I was really wondering. Thank you. So should I still send my 7th semester grades to USNA? Or to NAPS?
 
Does it ask for Gpa because I am on it and it doesn't say anything about GPA?
And I clicked summit but it says remarks or additional comments: 1000 characters.

I've never tried the Atlantic Grill, but I can attest to how cold it can get here. :cool:
 
Should I go there and visit to see the school? Or does it not matter since I'm only there for a year?
 
Definitely go and visit if you think a year's stay and that place has any potential for taking you there or taking you someplace else.

Newport's a nice place, and while NAPS will restrict your free reign of the area, it's not Shawshank. Go if you've time, money, curiosity. If any of those are limited, don't sweat it. You could do 10 months standing on your head. :confused: :eek: :wink:

If you live within a several hour car drive, its not a bad idea. It's not a big deal however. I'm from the West Coast, and hadn't even visited the East Coast at all before arriving at NAPS. Your weekdays consist of classes, a couple hours to work out, and study period. Your weekends are largely yours to sleep, work out, do homework, or go to the liberty center, etc., provided your platoon doesn't have duty that day. If you know you want to be a Navy or Marine Corps officer bad enough, it won't matter what the school really is like IMHO.
