The summer sem. application just opened does anybody know when it will close. My DS is taking his SAT on Jan 26th. and will need to wait for the results before applying.

He is also seeking to be part of a D1 sport. Will this help with selection or does it really not matter.

Thank you...

If he has a PSAT score he can apply and just enter that. Most juniors took the PSAT in October and the results came out in December. They also take the ACT or PLAN scores for the application.

As for sports, by all accounts Academics, Athletics and Leadership are the 3 big ticket items. The BGO officer told at our child's school told all kids interested in apply to an academy that being GREAT at any sport helps(...so being D1 level must really help!). Otherwise his information is that cross country, track (distance) and swimming are good because of the endurance they know you are building and basketball and soccer because of the constant running nature and 'full team work' that are so essential to those sports. He said other individualized sports (golf, tennis, wrestling) and those where you don't usually run quite as much (softball, baseball) are still good.

I would be interested to here if his thoughts are fairly accurate from those who know about the West Point application process.

Call admissions and ask them when application closes.

Is DS being recruited for the sport he is interested in? You can contact the office for that particular sport to open up channels. I know if that particular sport is interested that helps out A LOT!

You can still start the application. I sent in my scores in fron the February act and was still accepted.

Thank you...

Being recruited and the channels are now opened all I can say right now is he got very lucky. Yes he can handle the D1 level, it's something he really wants. It would now come down to: Does the coach and team like him and is he a fit for them. Right now it all looks good; however, it's a long road for the entire process. Lots to prove and achieve, there is the application, nomination, continued efforts in HS, and lots of other things that need to fall in place. As an athlete he has value to offer for his craft and he will be effective but he has to prove it to them. His biggest wall will be the mild asthma he was told he had at the age of 8 but that's all being addressed right now. I'm trying to find out when the summer sem. closes.

I really appreciate all the feedback, the more I learn the more support and guidance I can give. Thank you very much, the people in the is forum are quite helpful, positive and nice.

We see "APPLICATION OPENING JANUARY 17, 2013!". You can click that link, but it just leads to a video as of today...at least on our end.

Perhaps the original poster is referring to the West Point summer program. That did indeed just open recently.

My Bad...

Sorry rudyinoc I didn't mean to make that mistake, I did in fact post 6 days too soon for the USNA. Thank you for the correction Stella!
